Escape to this splendid detached barn conversion in rural Perthshire, which is just a short drive from Auchterarder with its 1½-mile long high street lined with a splendid selection of eateries and bespoke shopping. Woodend Farm Barn nestles close to the owner’s home on Woodend Farm, now a 10-acre smallholding where Highland cattle and sheep graze. It was built well before the railway line, which is spanned by two beautiful bridges on the edge of the farm garden.
For many years, the farm operated as an 80-acre pig farm, but in 1999, a 10-acre section was sold off and the new owners completely transformed it. The farmhouse remained, but many of the sheds were taken down to leave just a small section, which was turned into stables. When the current owners took over in 2009, the barn itself was initially used as a machinery store and then a lambing shed, the barn has now been converted into a holiday home with a private hot tub, where guests can relax in the evening with a glass of wine in hand.

Alternatively just relax in the garden and enjoy the views, either in the hot tub, or from one of the outside seating areas which the owner has positioned to catch the best of the sunshine. Set within the owners’ 17-acre grounds, The Old Inverchroskie Kennels is a beautifully modernised, detached stone-built cottage set in an elevated position. Commanding fine views of the grounds and hills beyond, there is a stone patio at the front, perfect for sitting out on sunny days with a glass or two, and a private garden area at the back with another sitting-out area, where you can often see the red squirrels bounding from tree to tree. Although there isn’t an enclosed garden, two dogs are welcome at this pet-friendly property. Inside, the open plan living room and kitchen are flooded with light from the high Velux windows and French doors, and there is a wood burner adding to the sense of comfort within.

Wildlife abounds with red squirrels, fallow deer, hare and endless birds on the property, and pine martens can be seen from a nearby local hide. With a plethora of walks and cycle paths waiting to be explored nearby, including the Cateran Trail, your holiday can be as relaxing or as energetic as you like. The village of Kirkmichael is only a couple of miles away with two pubs, a local shop and tearoom. Pitlochry is 10 miles away with shops, eateries, salmon ladder and festival theatre - a very popular venue which hosts a wide range of productions throughout the year.

The lively towns of Blairgowrie, Perth and Dundee (home of Captain Scott’s ship ’Discovery’) are within easy reach, along with the skiing resort of Glenshee, the largest ski area in Scotland. Beyond Glenshee is Braemar, home to the famous Braemar Gathering, a key event in the Scottish Highland Games calendar and one attended by Her Majesty the Queen every year. The Victorian tourist town of Crieff is only 2 miles away and a good location for refreshments with quality places to eat and lots of cafés with home baking. Crieff is an ideal all year round location to visit and holds regular events and activities including a monthly farmers market, Highland games, traditional Scottish music festival and the very popular Drovers Tryst Walking Festival. Other places to visit are Pitlochry 25 minutes, Dunkled 10 minutes with Aberfeldy being the furthest away 35 minutes.
Scone Palace and racecourse are 13 miles away and Edinburgh, St Andrews and Stirling an hour’s drive through stunning scenery.
