Longnor provides an excellent starting point for many walks that radiate from the village, and for any rock climbers and free runners ‘The Roaches’ and ‘Ramshaw Rocks’ are just 10 minutes away. The famous spa town of Buxton home to the Opera House, Pavilion Gardens and Health Spa is around a 15-minute drive, and the ever popular market town of Bakewell around 20-minutes. Dovedale, home to the famous stepping stones, Ashbourne and Chatsworth House can all be reached in around 30-minutes as can Britain’s premier theme park Alton Towers.

The village of Longnor is a great base to be, offering a traditional village atmosphere and beautiful views. Outside of Longnor your nearest town is Buxton offering cafes, many delicious restaurants and great bars, plus the Opera House and Gardens. In the opposite direction is the town of Leek which is great for your high street shops. There is ample walking from your doorstep in Longnor with many trails to explore along with many more activities around you.

Hop in the car and you can be in Buxton town centre in under 10 minutes, this town is full of independent shops and cafés, it has delicious restaurants with all cuisines on offer. Buxton Opera House has shows on weekly and take a stroll around the Pavilion Gardens or visit the refurbished Crescent Spa for some rest and recreation ! Other neighbouring towns include Leek, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock, all offering a variety of activities to suit all the family. Easter Lane Cottage is a beautiful, historic property, set in a quiet spot on the edge of the picturesque village of Butterton in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The cottage lies in the south-west part of the White Peak and is an excellent base for those wishing to enjoy all the Peak District has to offer. The cottage is within easy reach of towns such as Leek, Ashbourne and Buxton which all are worth a visit. They all offer independent shops and cafés, as well as high street names, plenty of restaurants and bars, and Buxton also has the opera house, where you can watch shows making for a good night out. There are also several National Trust Properties nearby and the Peak Wildlife Park is within 5 miles. If you are more of a thrill seeker, then Alton Towers is a mere 10-mile drive.
Butterton sits high above the Manifold Valley. From the cottage, you can get straight onto this trail and walk for miles, connecting to other neighbouring trails. Some of the most beautiful scenery in the Peak District is within easy reach. Tissington Trail - popular with walkers and cyclists - is only 5 miles away. The local inn in Butterton is less than a quarter of a mile from the cottage and offers delicious food and ales. The property has been renovated to a high standard in 2023 with sustainable materials and underfloor heating to the ground floor.
As you drive through Butterton, to get to the cottage you pass through a ford, and from there you can see this inviting and welcoming cottage. There is ample parking outside and the stream runs by creating a relaxing atmosphere as you listen to the sounds of the water whilst enjoying the large garden this property offers. Inside the house is a kitchen with all the appliances and equipment you should need to make your favourite meal, a dining table that seats all guests, and the cute addition of a cushioned window bench; the dining room has patio doors opening it up to the garden, which has great views through fields to the distant hills. The sitting room is a comfortable and cosy space with a roaring wood burning stove to warm up in front of, after a day of walking or exploring. On the first floor is the master bedroom with a kingsize bed, a second bedroom with kingsize zip and link bed (which can be made into twin beds upon request), and the third bedroom with a full sized bunk bed. There is a family bathroom with walk-in shower. The ceilings have been opened up giving this first floor the ‘wow’ factor. It is a truly unique cottage bursting with character, perfectly placed in this quaint village, by the stream for pure relaxation and to take in what the Peak District is all about.

Throwley Cottage has a delightful location in a very rural area, a great spot for some peace and quiet and not to be disturbed. As you arrive there is ample parking and you are greeted by the vast fields that surround this home. The property itself is very traditional with original features and space. On the ground floor is the fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook your favourite meals during your stay with a dining table to seat all guests, there is also a back door leading out to the rear garden. The living room has comfortable seating, a TV and an open fire. There is also a shower room located on the ground floor.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, made up of a double, a twin and lastly a double bed and single bed in the third bedroom. All rooms have a homely feel to them and have stunning views across the Peak District landscape. There is also a family bathroom on the first floor with a bath and shower attachment. Outside within the fenced garden the kids can run free, play garden games or let the dogs enjoy the space this property offers. There is a bike rack too for you to store your bicycles while you aren’t on the trails.
Throwley Cottage is located near Ilam, Ashbourne, just a short distance from Dovedale and 15 minutes from Alton Towers theme park. The Peak District National Park has fantastic access to popular walking and cycling trails such as the Manifold Valley and the Tissington Trail. Pub and restaurant 3¾ miles.
