Hire a boat on the glorious Norfolk Broads and watch the weekly speed boat racing on nearby Oulton Broad.     Nearby Ickworth Park and Anglesey Abbey, both National Trust owned country houses, provide beautiful parkland and gardens. Barrow has two very popular pubs for eating out or you can pick up fresh fish and chips or find your self-catering essentials in one of two convenience stores. Historical sites and quaint streets await in Bury St Edmunds, with the fascinating ruins of Bury St Edmunds Abbey Gardens just next to the Cathedral, with beautiful grounds, perfect for a picnic in the sunshine. Enjoy fine dining in a wide range of eateries, or a night at the movies in the independent Picture House or Cineworld.
    Drive a little further and you will step back in time in Lavenham where you can visit the house used in Harry Potter’s film which was Harry’s parents’ house in ‘Godric’s Hollow’, also considered to be one of Britain’s best preserved medieval villages, where over 300 buildings are listed as being of architectural and historic interest. Wandering along narrow lanes, past timber-framed houses and the stunning Guildhall, you’ll find antique shops, galleries and cafés. Newmarket, just 8 miles to the west, is home to the National Horse Racing Museum and Links Golf Club, with leading supermarkets and a variety of traditional eateries to fuel your day.
    Jump onto the A14 and head to the west to the spectacular city of Cambridge, famed for its rich cultural and academic heritage, University Colleges, an impressive collection of over 18 museums and galleries, the Fitzwilliam Museum, home to a large collection of art and artefacts, the renowned Cambridge University Botanic Garden, and excellent shopping, meaning that Cambridge has something for everyone. Meander through the city and take in the beauty of the university colleges and gleaming spires or lie back and enjoy a relaxing punt along the river. The Suffolk coast and picturesque seaside towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh are within easy reach, if a day on the beach is on your wish list. Duxford air Museum is approximately 25 minutes’ drive. Other places of interest to visit are the nearby Bressingham Steam Museum, and Planet Laser in Bury St Edmunds (which also hosts a Christmas market). There are excellent restaurants in the village of Culford, and private dining can be booked at the local restaurant if required. Clay pigeon shooting and horse riding can be booked in the village, whilst paint balling, Go Ape and the Dad’s Army Museum are attractions at Thetford.     Toppesfield Hall is a holiday retreat location set within 6 acres. There are 5 different holiday homes spread around the estate. The owners also live on site at the main hall next to the cottage. The accommodation is entirely open plan and made up of a well laid out sleeping area, spacious living and dining area and a modern kitchen featuring everything you’ll need for a short break or holiday. The outdoor space is a real sun trap, and it is a great spot for enjoying your morning coffee whilst planning your day ahead. After a busy day exploring, sit back and relax, light the fire pit when it starts to get a little colder at night, or submerge yourself in the hot tub. The choice is yours.
    Feeling energetic? You are welcome to take full advantage of the on-site tennis court (shared with other properties), hire bikes (please pre book to avoid disappointment) or run around in the dedicated playing field. This area is also great for exercising your beloved dogs.
    Silver Birch is situated within a peaceful rural location in the North Essex village of Toppesfield. The village has a great local pub which can be reached on foot from your accommodation, and a small village shop and brewery. You can even sample Toppesfield’s very own award-winning wine during your stay too. Great Yeldham, Sible Hedingham and Castle Hedingham are all less than 10 minutes away by car.
    Twelve minutes in the opposite direction and you will find Finchingfield, its famous village green and duck pond together with three pubs and eateries. Further afield to the north but still less than an hour’s journey, you’ll find the wonderful city of Cambridge. Located on the River Cam and home to the world recognised university. You may enjoy punting along the river. For all you shopaholics, you’ll be pleased to know that Braintree Designer Village is less than 30 minutes away. Fancy a day beside the sea? The Essex coast at Clacton on Sea or Mersea Island can both be reached in approximately 1 hour.
