This quaint, semi-detached barn conversion has been renovated to a very high standard and is situated on the boundary of the beautiful Kenfig National Nature Reserve. The Reserve is a coastal dune system near the seaside town of Porthcawl. It hosts a variety of habitats including wetlands, dunes, the River Kenfig and Kenfig Pool. Steeped in history, the village has castle ruins and a buried village. Within walking distance, is the local pub, dating back to the 15th century, upstairs in the pub is still the Village Town Hall, and it has been a popular meeting place for well over 600 years. It has been used as a court room, market, coroner’s inquest room, Sunday school and even as a mortuary for shipwrecked mariners. Thanks to its varied history it is unsurprisingly though to be one of the most haunted pubs in Wales.
Sker beach is accessible by a 20-minute walk from the property, it is the most westerly of Porthcawl’s beaches and is only accessible by walking from Rest Bay or Kenfig Nature Reserve. Generally sandy and flat, it is mostly used by locals, making it one of the quieter beaches in Porthcawl. Classes as a rural beach it has no toilets or other amenities, and dogs are allowed all year round. For those wanting to take in a country walk or cycling, Margam Country Park is 4 miles from the property.
Set in 1000 acres of glorious parklands, Margam Country Park offers natural beauty, history, wildlife, and a wide range of fun activities to make it one of the best days out in Wales. Once you have finished your day exploring, head back to the barn and sit outside and watch the sun go down. For those cooler nights, the wood burner in the living room will certainly keep you cosy.

This lovely terraced cottage has enough space for a large family, and has local amenities within walking distance. It is situated just outside Pyle, near Margam Park, with its lovely lakes, gounds and country walks, and close to the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. There is a lot of history to discover here, including a Roman fort and castle, whilst Kenfig Nature Reserve, renowned for its bird watching, will also prove popular. Take the children for a day out to Porthcawl beach, which is less than 5 miles from the property, and enjoy the Welsh coastline. Located about 25 minutes’ drive from Cardiff, this property will cater for all holidaymakers, and has a large enclosed garden, perfect for those wanting to take their pets on holiday with them. The Cwm Clydach RSPB Nature Reserve is within easy walking distance from Ty Howton and is a must for wildlife enthusiasts. If you’re lucky you might spot a grey wagtail, a dipper or even an otter as you follow the course of the river along the valley floor. The local pub is an inviting place where you can enjoy a mid-walk meal or pint.
Further afield, a scenic drive northwards over moorland leads to the stunning Towy Valley with its majestic castles, meandering river and the charming, picture postcard town of Llandeilo, 17 miles. Waterfall Country in the Neath Valley is also well worth a visit. With easy access to the motorway, Ty Howton is conveniently located for day trips to Cardiff, 45 miles, Penclacwydd Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre, 12 miles, the National Botanic Garden of Wales, 20 miles, Carmarthenshire, or the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Situated on the owners 16 acres of land, with a large wildlife pond. There are walks to be had straight from the front door and into Dyffryn woods - the woodland is approximately 260 metres high and gives some great views over Neath, The Bristol Channel and the Gower peninsula on a clear day. There is plenty to do and see from both properties; for those adrenaline junkies looking for some excitement, Bike Park Wales is approximately a 40-minute drive from the property, and Afan Forest Mountain Bike Trails are a 25-minute drive, with masses of trails for mountain bike enthusiasts.
If you tire of the mountains, you are never far from the sea either with Aberavon Beach 9 miles away, and the famous Gower Peninsula only 20 miles away. The National Show Caves for Wales are a short drive from the property and make a fantastic day out with three of the largest caves to experience. Almost directly across the road you will find Craig Y Nos Castle and the attached country park which was formally owned by opera singer Adelina Patti. If you are looking for some retail therapy the property is perfectly located only 3 miles from the historic market town of Neath and 9 miles from Swansea, both of which have traditional indoor markets. Swansea has a lovely marina and a very large beach which continues on to Mumbles where you will find an array of bistros, shops and ice cream parlous where you can try the famous Joes Ice cream. Cardiff is also easily reachable within an hour’s drive, or by train from Neath station. These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.

Take a trip to Laugharne where a tour of Thomas Dylan’s former home is just one of the places to discover in the area. A great day out is the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens, and the famous walled coastal town of Tenby all within reach and perfect for day trips.

Bay Cottage is set in the grounds of Coytrahen House, an 18th-century landscaped park with a Georgian country house. The park is mostly woodland and offers 42 acres to explore. Bay Cottage is detached and sits just behind the main country house. The cottage has a modern feel with a touch of country style and the luxury finish throughout makes for a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
Accommodating up to four guests, there are two good-sized bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms. The open plan living accommodation boasts two living areas, a dining space and a fully equipped kitchen. The 42-acre plot is based in Coytrahen, Bridgend; you’ll find a local pub in the village, and more in neighbouring towns and villages around the borough. Bridgend County Borough has lots to explore, including historical sites, country parks and the heritage coast, a designer shopping outlet and some fantastic independent restaurants around the county. So whether you fancy a day at the beach, or want to indulge in some local history, or even a day of retail therapy followed by some quality dining, it’s all there to enjoy.
If you want to see more of South Wales Bay Cottage is a great base… road access for South Wales is good, with the M4 motorway a short drive away. Head west for Swansea and the famous Gower Peninsula Area Of National Beauty or Pembrokeshire coast. Or a short drive east will get you to Cardiff, Wales’ capital city. Cardiff is home to all kinds of events year round, including international sports, musical superstars, and much more! Within an hour’s drive you could also find yourself in the famous Welsh valleys, where you’ll find waterfall walks (where some famous movie scenes have been filmed), or the Brecon Beacons at the foot of the tallest peak in South Wales, Penyfan.

Wernddu Fechan Bungalow is perfect for an extended family break or friends alike looking to explore this fabulous area. The property has full wheelchair access and ramp level access to the ground floor, there is a ground floor double room and walk-in shower for those with reduced mobility. A great open kitchen/dining room leads to the rear garden through French doors – perfect for al-fresco dining! There is an enclosed grassed area for the dogs to run about freely and a paddock to the side of the property (not fully enclosed). The living room is perfect for a night in or relaxing in front of the wood burner with a glass of something refreshing.
For your comfort there are digital thermostats downstairs that control the underfloor heating, with additional, separate controls for the master bedroom and hallway. Upstairs has individual thermostatic radiator valves. The patio area outside to the front of the property has glass balustrades surrounding the front of the property and to the rear is a patio area and grassed garden. The property sits within 10 acres of land.
Both Neath town centre and Swansea are easily accessible being approximately 4-5 miles from the property.

The valley is home to some of Wales’s most impressive waterfalls, including Aberdulais, Melincourt, Pontneddfechan and Sgwd yr Eira. Multiple local golf courses are available as is some of the best Salmon and Sewin (Seatrout) fishing in the UK on the rivers Towy, Teifi, Gwilli and Cothi, a personal ghillie can even be arranged for you. It is a perfect base for anyone wishing to fish the Golden Grove or Abercothi Estates waters. Other coarse and flyfishing lakes and reservoirs are also available. Horse riding with a local equestrian centre is also available.
All in all you could not find a more centrally located place for a holiday in South Wales.
