A superbly converted stable cottage set in beautiful countryside on the edge of the South Downs National Park offering idyllic views with easy access to local attractions. Freeland Farmhouse Stables has been lovingly converted from a stable to an attractive two bedroom holiday cottage. Well located with an abundance of paths and bridleways on the doorstep this is an ideal retreat for countryside lovers and walkers. On entering the cottage there is a spacious open plan living area with an open beamed ceiling and a comfortable living and dining space surrounding a wood burner, there are double bi-fold doors opening on to the front terrace which is great for those balmy summer evenings. The kitchen area is superbly equipped with lovely views over the rear of the property towards the countryside and gliding club. There are two spacious ground floor bedrooms and a family bathroom. One of the bedrooms has kingsize bed and the other bedroom has twin beds. To the front of the cottage you will find a lovely patio area overlooking an enclosed cottage garden with seating perfect for enjoying the late afternoon sunshine. You can catch the local gliders flying high above in the Sussex sky whilst relaxing after a day of exploring or directly access the countryside pathways and explore the local area.
Freeland Farmhouse Cottage is in an idyllic location surrounded by fields with local horses grazing and chickens roaming freely in the gardens. With the local gliding club based in the next field why not take the opportunity of flying over the South Downs Ridge or experiencing a bird’s eye view of the breathtaking scenery of Sussex the South Downs and the coast. For less adrenaline fuelled activities the RSPB Pulborough Brooks is just a mile away from the cottage and is extra special for walkers and countryside lovers. There are many excellent walks across the Brooks and along the banks of the River Arun offering uninterrupted views south towards the South Downs. Part of the Brooks contains one of the RSPB’s major reserves in the south. The nearby village of Storrington lies on the northern edge of the South Downs and is the closest village to the mid-point of the South Downs Way. Storrington is a lively village with most of the facilities of a small town. It has a wide variety of shops and businesses and a selection of pubs and restaurants to enjoy. It also offers access to a host of renowned walks across the Downs with footpaths leading to the top of Kithurst and Chantry Hills. For the less energetic there are roads leading to the top of the Downs both east and west of Storrington with car parks once you reach the top. Also within walking distance of the cottage is Parham House a magnificent Elizabethan country house with beautiful formal gardens and open parkland. The rooms are graced with fresh flowers cut daily from the four acre walled garden. The main rooms are the Great Hall, Great Chamber and the Long Gallery which at the top of the house leaves a tremendous visual impression. During the year Parham hosts a number of popular house and garden weekends. Beach 12 miles. Shop and restaurant 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Set below the imposing Blackdown, the highest point in the South Downs, this holiday home is a comfortable base for exploring the wonderful surroundings and numerous local attractions. Oak Grove is a modern, attached chalet home set in the lovely village of Fernhurst which is just beneath Blackdown. The cottage itself has all modern comforts whilst offering the rural location that would be ideal for walkers or nature lovers.

On the ground floor you will find a bright and airy dining area with seating overlooking the front garden area and this then leads to the fully equipped kitchen which has all modern conveniences. The snug lounge area is equipped with entertainment to suit all ages including access to Freeview TV, Netflix and Amazon. The views over to the surrounding countryside from the first floor are delightful. The rear garden is an oasis of tranquillity, surrounded by mature oak trees which offer privacy and seclusion. There is a garden building housing a full size table tennis table which is available throughout the summer months for guests to enjoy.

Fernhurst is a West Sussex village lying close to the borders of Surrey and Hampshire. Haslemere, a mere 3 miles from Oak Grove, is a quaint and charming market town steeped in history, and has a host of attractions for visitors to satisfy all interests. Experience first-hand the beautiful parks, gardens and spectacular historic houses, or immerse yourself in culture at the many places of historical interest. Drive 10 minutes and you will be in Midhurst, here you will find the grand Tudor ruins of Cowdray House, one of England’s most important early Tudor houses.

A little further and you will reach the historic town of Petworth, which is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House completed in 1696. The House and its grounds are now owned and maintained by the National Trust, and the magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collections. With Goodwood less than half an hour’s drive from Oak Grove you are perfectly placed to visit Goodwood House. You can also take the opportunity to attend one of the many events at the Goodwood Motoring circuit such as the Festival of Speed or the Revival meeting.

Walk to Horsted Keynes station and take a steam train! This delightful rural cottage is in sublime Sussex countryside. Sheriff Cottage is in a most rural and tranquil setting beside a quiet lane, close to the village of Horsted Keynes. Built during the late Victorian period, the cottage is the end of a group of three attached cottages.

As you open the front door you enter a light and airy dining hall with high ceilings and room for six people to eat in comfort. The living room at the front of the cottage is a peaceful haven for relaxation with comfortable sofas and an armchair furnished to give a period ambience. The kitchen is compact and well equipped for preparing your meals. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom with a period-style, freestanding bath. The garden at Sheriff Cottage is a real feature. It is a mix of traditional, herbaceous, English cottage garden planting and a collection of black bamboo, giving a modern twist. The garden room adjacent to the cottage is a spacious extra sitting room perfect for watching DVDs on the large flat screen TV or relaxing with a book or a board game.

Half a mile down the lane is Horsted Keynes station on the Bluebell Railway. The Bluebell celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010 and runs from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead where it connects with mainline services. This has taken the line to a total distance of about 12 miles passing through some of the most picturesque Sussex countryside that you will find.
Horsted Keynes is a small village just under 2 miles south east of Sheriff Cottage. It has two pubs and a traditional general store selling all the essential every day food items. Slightly further south and right beside the station at Sheffield Park, Sheffield Park Garden is a magnificent informal landscape garden laid out in the 18th Century by ’Capability’ Brown. To the west, Wakehurst Place is one of the National Trust’s most visited places and country home for the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. Immediately to the south of East Grinstead, Standen is hidden at the end of a quiet Sussex lane with breathtaking views over the High Weald and Weirwood Reservoir. A little further afield at Handcross, Nymans House and Gardens is another National Trust property and so similar in appeal to both Sheffield Park and Wakehurst Place, while the Ardingly Resevoir which nestles into the wooded hillside near to Balcombe offers many walks and the opportunity to enjoy or simply watch watersports on the 198 acres of water.

The kitchen has everything you could need including an electric hob, fridge and microwave. The modern shower room has a fantastic large cubicle with electric shower. Outside, enjoy your own private screened decking with outdoor dining area and private firepit – relax under the stars whilst enjoying the warmth from the fire.
This is the perfect getaway to experience everything the south coast has to offer. The property is near Pagham Nature Reserve, a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife. About 10 miles away, Chichester boasts a beautiful cathedral, Chichester Festival Theatre, and world-famous events at Goodwood and horse racing at Fontwell. The South Downs National Park is renowned for its network of scenic walks, and just a short drive away is the cosmopolitan city of Brighton to the east, Portsmouth to the west, and ferry trips can be taken to the Isle of Wight. Arun Cottage is a beautiful property that is right in the heart of Loxwood, just minutes away from Billingshurst, and 100 yards from Wey/Arun canal. There is a slight setback from the main road where the cottage is located. The cottage dates back from 1904, and the rooms downstairs are separated by open doorways. The kitchen is a reasonable size with country-style cabinets. The kitchen window looks out over the small patio area and the field where two white horses live. The kitchen has everything you need for a home-from-home staycation. The kitchen then leads to the cosy living room where you will find an open fire. This is the perfect space to relax after a long day on the canal which is less than a 5-minute walk away. From the living room, there is an open doorway that leads into the dining area with a bar. This room looks out to the garden, and there are two sets of French doors leading to the garden. On the first flight of stairs to the first floor, you will find the family bathroom with a walk-in shower and a view of the field at the back of the house. There are two bedrooms on this floor, and any of these rooms will be the perfect place to get a good night’s sleep. Up the stairs to the second floor, you have the third bedroom with a double bed and another family bathroom with a free-standing roll-top bath. You can relax here in a gorgeous bubble bath while the rest of the family is downstairs enjoying the sumptuous living room.
There is so much to do in and around Loxwood. There are two pubs nearby, both within walking distance, both offer food and receive favourable reviews. If you fancy a day on the canal, you can book boat trips and even take a Santa cruise during the Christmas holiday time. This can be booked via the Wey and Arun Canal Trust. The Wey and Arun Canal is the idyllic spot for a bit of bird watching and taking in all that nature has to offer. If you do not fancy a boat trip, then there are many scenic walks including The Wey-South Path. This is a walking route linking the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. If you are a keen golfer, there are some great golf courses nearby. The pretty town of Chichester is not too far away, and Arun Cottage is a convenient base for any of the Goodwood events and for the Loxwood Joust festival. This is a memorable day out for the whole family. After all that fun you can walk back to Arun Cottage and take advantage of all the luxury the cottage offers. Beach 23 miles.

Bognor Regis is becoming one of the most popular seaside places to visit. With large expanses of sand at low tide and the 3-mile-long promenade, which stretches from Felpham to Aldwick. Along the promenade, are a number of places providing hot and cold food and drinks as well as those all-important ice creams and fish and chips. The promenade train is a great way to enjoy the views. The seafront and Butlins swimming complex is around a 15-minute walk from the cottage and 10 minutes from the historic Hotham Park, which has a children’s play park, boating lake, café and miniature railway.
There is a lot to explore in this area of the south coast with the historic city of Arundel, home of the stunning Arundel Castle and Gardens. Take a break from sunbathing and swimming and head up to the glorious South Downs for a gentle stroll or a bike ride. The very popular attractions at Glorious Goodwood and Fontwell Racecourse plus Worthing, Brighton and Portsmouth are an easy drive. The cathedral city of Chichester is only 5 miles away, with broad streets packed with listed buildings, most notably the towering presence of the cathedral; all neatly enclosed within the ancient but fantastically preserved Roman city walls. It is a vibrant,cosmopolitan and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle. Chichester Festival Theatre is well worth a visit. Beach 1¼ miles.
