About this property

Located opposite the home of Beatrix Potter in the picturesque village of Near Sawrey, Anvil Cottage is a picture-perfect holiday home just 2 miles south of Hawkshead and 5 miles east of Coniston on the western shores of Lake Windermere. Once the village bakery, this stone built cottage sleeps 6 and is ideal for a family or friends who want to explore the stunning landscape of the Lake District. With all the conveniences of modern living, Anvil Cottage maintains bags of charm and country cottage character. Through the traditional porch, you enter a cosy and comfortable lounge with a traditional slate flagged floor, multifuel burner for those cooler evenings and a satellite TV. There's a lovely cottage feel to the lounge and the dining room which seats 6 around a large dining table. Off the well equipped kitchen there's a utility room and the downstairs accommodation also features a shower with separate hand basin and WC. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, both with window seats and views over the village and one is equipped with a satellite TV and DVD player. The accommodation is completed with a light and airy family room with a single bed and bunk beds ideal for younger children. There's also a good sized family bathroom with separate wash basin and WC. Outside there's a small and very pretty cottage garden with flower beds and a lawn, the ideal spot for a morning coffee, afternoon tea or glass of wine after a long day's sightseeing in the Lakes. Fully enclosed, the garden is ideal for children and pets. There's also a single garage which would make an ideal place to store bikes if you intend to explore the nearby cycling trails. Anvil Cottage is just 100 yards from the Tower Bank Arms, which features in several Beatrix Potter books and now provides excellent meals as well as a traditional country pub atmosphere. Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's home, is just a short stroll away, making Anvil Cottage the perfect location for lovers of her charming animal stories. At Anvil Cottage you're just a short drive from the banks of Lake Windermere and Esthwaite Water, making this the ideal location for keen walkers and cyclists with plenty of challenging mountain bike trails in the vicinity. Coniston and Hawkeshead are nearby, so don't miss a trip to the Drunken Duck, the Lake District's original gastropub and microbrewery. Don't miss a scenic boat cruise on Lake Windermere or take a day trip to the Keswick Adventure Centre for canoeing, climbing and abseiling. Wonderfully situated at the heart of the stunning and picturesque Lake District, Anvil Cottage really is the ideal jumping off point for the perfect family holiday.
