In one direction, you can take a short drive into the town of Oakham where children can enjoy feeding the animals at Rutland Farm Park, and there is also a train station, a museum, playgrounds and a 12th century castle. Also in this direction is the Rutland Water Nature Reserve which is home to a thrilling aqua park, a golf course, Rutland Falconry and Rutland Zoo. There is cycle hire, boat rental and other water sports and 26 miles of paths to explore around the reservoir. In the opposite direction, you can explore the thriving city of Leicester which has a captivating cathedral, plenty of interesting museums and galleries including the National Space Centre, a go-kart track and the Flip Out indoor trampoline park, as well as shops, bars and eateries to spoil you for choice. The lovely market towns of Uppingham, Market Harborough and Melton Mowbray, famous for the Pork Pie, are all around 20 minutes away from your base in Tilton on the Hill. There are also many attractive villages nearby and a host of farm shops and cafes offering outstanding local produce.
