The village of Shipton Gorge is rich in history with pretty lanes, traditional cottages and a grand church dating to XIII century which is even mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Take a leisurely stroll through the charming village which offers many scenic walks along footpaths and bridleways, before stopping off at a traditional pub for a delicious meal. The nearest beach is just a short drive away in the coastal village of Burton Bradstock and is the home to the loved-by-locals Hive Beach Café which serves light bites and refreshments in a spectacular on beach location with a sweeping shingle shoreline and golden clifftop backdrop. A few miles further afield you will find the quirky town of Bridport which is well known for its weekly markets with a diverse range of stalls, selling arts and crafts, unique keepsakes, bric-a-brac and local foods. Another short and scenic drive will take you to the bustling fishing village of West Bay, known for its busy working harbour lined with kiosks, cafes and restaurants. Another scenic car journey brings you to the seaside town of Weymouth; offering all you need to enjoy a traditional day by the sea with its golden sandy beach, shallow waters and many attractions including donkey rides, arcades and watersports, a fun filled day out both adults and children will enjoy, Weymouth is worth a visit. This village, with its high-banked lanes has no "gorge" but still has an interesting culture with beautiful houses and a strong community spirit. The village is home to a number of listed buildings and quintessential thatched cottages, as well as plenty of footpaths, some bridleways and two small woodland areas for you to explore on your trip. The history of the village continues with its 13th century font and 15th century church tower, making it a fascinating destination year round.
