Situated in the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cromford is best known for being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, as the site of industrialist Richard Arkwright’s first cotton mills. Even Roseville once belonged to the Arkwright family. Walk over to the neighbouring town of Matlock, where you can take the scenic walk up to the well-known Pic Tor War Memorial or step into the past with a ride on the Peak Rail, which uses vintage steam and diesel trains as an alternative way to see the sights.
