Benefitting from underfloor heating, three bedrooms, two of which are en-suite and a further bathroom, and stunning views over the surrounding countryside, it really does make for a luxury rural break. You’ll also find ample private parking and an enclosed patio with seating area to relax, take stock and simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Hathersage is a large, busy village in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and has associations with both Robin Hood and the Brontës. It is home to a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as, quite uniquely, a seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool. Centrally located, the neighbouring village of Bamford is just over 1 mile away, Hope 3 miles and then the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton is just under 5 miles away. The fascinating plague village of Eyam is around a 15 minute drive; Bakewell and Chatsworth House are around 20 minutes away. Hathersage, Bamford and Hope all have their own train stations connecting you to the bright lights of Sheffield and Manchester. An area popular with lovers of the great outdoors, you’ll find ample walking, cycling and climbing available. Stanage and Burbage Edge are both nearby and reward you with superb views of the Dark Peak moorlands. The pretty Derbyshire village of Great Longstone is set in a wonderful location in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The village is flanked by Longstone Edge, with Bakewell and Chatsworth House close by. There are two traditional village pubs, a shop, 18th-century stone cottages and a market cross that is situated on the delightful village green. The Monsal Trail runs through the village and provides 8½ miles of scenic, traffic-free walking and cycling, with the spectacular viaduct at nearby Monsal Head and several tunnels along the route to keep the whole family interested.
Just down the road lies the picture postcard village of Ashford-in-the-Water, which boasts medieval Sheepwash Bridge, once a major crossing point over the River Wye for packhorses delivering mail from Derby. The nearby, renowned market town of Bakewell, which can be accessed via the Monsal Trail, offers a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs, together with frequent, local farmers’ markets. Take a stroll along the river bank to feed the ducks and geese, and see the ‘love locks’ on the foot bridge.
The spa town of Buxton, with its Opera House, is also within driving distance. You could also visit the many stately homes in the area, including iconic Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, or take a trip to the World Heritage Site of the Richard Arkwright Mills in Cromford. The views from Monks Retreat are beautiful, just a short walk away you have an extensive panorama or seven dales and can see far out into the distance to the high moorlands of Axe Edge and Kinder Scout. The Limestone Way trail runs directly through the farm so you can easily hope on to this for your first exciting Peak District walk, there are many in the area such as Monsal Trail, High Peak Trail and Tissington Trail to name a few. Local to the property is Buxton town which offers an array of restaurants, pubs and shops, as well as the famous opera house that has shows on regularly. Bakewell and Matlock are also nearby to explore, as well as Chatsworth House. After you have enjoyed a fun-filled day head down to the local pub to enjoy some local ales and home cooked food.

Take a beautiful Peak District National Park setting, just 3½ miles from Bakewell, add a historic hall (first recorded in the Domesday Book), and an ancient cluster of listed buildings converted to form superb holiday cottage accommodation, and the result is the captivating blend that is Harthill Hall.

Nestling in 14 acres of grounds on an upland called Priest’s Hill with excellent walking available from the doorstep, the properties have the use of an extensive range of leisure facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, solarium and treatment rooms. It was here in 1259 that Sir Richard de Hartle was issued a Papal Bull by Pope Alexander II, allowing him to appoint his own chaplain.
