East Monkton Farm lies just 6 miles from the beautiful town of Cowbridge with its array of lovely shops, coffee shops and restaurants. This is truly a perfect place for those wanting to explore the surrounding countryside, whether it be ion foot, by bike or with your dog. Take a stroll to Blaen Y Cwm Nature Reserve and head down to Monknash beach and watch the waves crashing on the shoreline. Enjoy cliff top walks along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast with stunning views across the Bristol Channel to Somerset and North Devon. Beautiful Ogmore-by-Sea is 5 miles away with its huge beach and fabulous sand dunes. The lovely beach at Southerndown is close by too. For the more adventurous, the go-karting centre is just 3 miles from the property, Margam Park with Go Ape is 12 miles away and there are some beautiful walks to be had at Margam Park. The property is only 30 minutes from Cardiff and Swansea and the Gower Peninsula is not too far away. Pub 8-minute walk from the property. Nash point lighthouse is only 10 minutes away overlooking sandbanks, and the national trust Dyffryn gardens is only 25 minuites away. Or take a 10 minute drive to llantwit major, where you can catch the train to Cardiff, Barry or Penarth for a day out.

Converted from an 18th century milking shed to a high standard cottage in 2020, Ty Arth has lots of original features that have been upcycled and used in the property. New Quay has an array of local pubs, shops and restaurants, as well as Cardigan Watersports Centre for those who fancy trying paddle-boarding or sailing. The picturesque fishing harbour is also home to bottlenose dolphins who may be spotted on a clear day. New Quay is where the poet Dylan Thomas lived during World War II, and visitors can follow the Dylan Thomas Trail around the town. Nearby New Quay Honey Farm is well worth a visit, as is the delightful and colourful harbour town of Aberaeron. The ruins of Strata Florida and the Cambrian Mountains are only a short drive away, and golf and horse riding is available nearby. Beach 1½ miles. Dildre, named after an ancestral family farm in the area is a delightful two kingsize bedroom holiday property, all on one level, attached to the owner’s home. Situated within their working sheep farm in a rural location, Dildre has been thoughtfully furnished to give holidaymakers a very comfortable stay. The kitchen/dining room which also has a comfy sofa to enjoy the views, has direct access through the French doors on to a secluded patio, which is a tranquil place to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening drink. There you will find seating for four, a table and the hot tub. The cosy separate living room also provides direct access to another seating area at the front of the property, overlooking the farm to the countryside and hills beyond. The cottage has two kingsize double bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom and a second shower room, making it perfect for couples or friends holidaying together. The land is encircled by a footpath and bridleway of approximately 2 miles. If you wish to order your supermarket groceries to be delivered on the day you arrive the owners will take delivery and put all your shopping away for you in advance of your arrival so that your wine is chilling in the fridge!
Dildre is ideally situated for exploring this diverse region of West Wales, and is perfect for a weekend break or a longer stay with award winning beaches (many pet-friendly year round), sandy coves, sea cliffs, caves and wonderful wildlife, amazing sunsets and starry skies. Less than 10 miles away, you can discover the attractive Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron with its colourful houses and an array of independent shops and lots of cafés, restaurants and pubs. There are many events and festivals held annually within the town, including a mackerel festival, the festival of Welsh ponies and cobs, beer and cider festival and a rugby sevens event. The National Trust Georgian country estate of Llanerchaeron, just 2½ miles south east of Aberaeron, can be reached from the town along a wide level pedestrian pathway, ideal for cyclists, pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Just a bit further down the coast, you will find the seaside town of New Quay, where the houses cling to the rocks, and the long harbour wall is the perfect place to enjoy fish and chips whilst you try to spot the regular visitors of bottlenose dolphins or just watch the boats bobbing. Boat trips are available in season and offer a spectacular view of the coastline, and the bay is home to an amazing variety of wildlife, both above and under the waves. A 20-minute drive towards the Cambrian Mountains will bring you the historic market town of Tregaron, centre for ‘Trotian’ - horse trotting and carriage racing. The annual summer event attracts competitors from all over the UK and Ireland. It is also the home of the Welsh Gold Centre selling Celtic inspired designs. Just outside the town, you can discover the Cors Caron Nature Reserve covering 2,000 acres.
Don’t forget to visit the seaside town of Aberystwyth whilst you are here and enjoy a ride on the Vale of Rheidol steam train to Devil’s bridge and waterfalls or take the electric cliff railway to the summit of Constitution Hill to see the panoramic view of the coastline. The name, the Plucking Barn originates from the days of old when the barn was used to prepare ducks and chickens. Today there is no trace of that, but instead you will be greeted by friendly owners who have created a modern and very comfortable holiday cottage, in an ‘upside down’ style to take advantage of the gorgeous views. On the ground floor there are two bedrooms, one a double and the other a twin. They both have access to the lovely shower room with walk-in shower. There is thermostatically controlled radiators upstairs, and underfloor heating on the ground floor. Upstairs, the living area is open plan with a spacious modern and well equipped kitchen and dining space which leads to the living area where there are two comfy leather sofas and chair. You can sit here and take full advantage of the amazing countryside views or step out through the patio doors onto the balcony and enjoy sitting at the table with a coffee or a glass of something chilled and breathe in the fresh Welsh air. There’s also an outside seating area right by the barn with barbecue, table and chairs and a great enclosed paddock for exercising dogs right opposite.
The location of the Plucking Barn makes it an ideal base for day trips around west and mid Wales. There are over 60 miles of glorious coastline in Cardigan Bay. There are lots of beaches and coves and many are dog friendly all year round if you are bringing your pet on holiday with you. The pretty coastal resort of New Quay and the colourful Georgian harbour town Aberaeron can be easily reached within 30 minutes’ drive. You’re very likely to see dolphins in the bay and there are boat trips available to watch them and the other wildlife. The Victorian seaside and university town of Aberystwyth is also within easy reach and here you’ll find a traditional pier, promenade and the old electric cliff railway to the summit of Constitution Hill where you can enjoy a really panoramic view of the bay.
If outdoor activities are your thing, there are plenty of options for walkers and cyclists of all abilities as well as horse riding, canoeing and more. Families can enjoy a day out at the National Trust Dolaucothi Gold Mines at Pumsaint, the Silver Mountain Experience (silver-lead mines) at Ponterwyd or the red kite feeding centre at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian. Or why not take a trip on a traditional steam train from Abersytwyth to the falls at Devil’s Bridge? Conveniently situated close to village amenities, it is also just yards from the shores of the Teifi Estuary and the northern end of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. The ancient village of St Dogmaels nestles around its ruined Tironian abbey at the mouth of the River Teifi. It boasts a working 16th-century water mill, and holds an award-winning weekly produce market.
The area is justly renowned for its lovely beaches, hidden coves and stunning coastal scenery, and abounds with historic castles, forts and fascinating archaeology. In 2017 the nearby Cardigan Castle won the RICS ’Restoration of the Year’ award, screened on Channel 4, and is well worth a visit. Superb walking is also on offer on the coastal paths of both Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, as well as the atmospheric Preseli Hills with an extensive local network of footpaths and bridleways. Wildlife in the area is abundant and dolphins, porpoises and seals are often seen from local beaches and coves.
The property itself enjoys distant views of the estuary from the living room and is just 1½ miles from the beautiful Poppit Sands. Ponycob Cottage (ref PA6) is named after the Welsh name for pony; the larger Welsh cob, known for its hardiness and good temperament, historically used on the farm. This lovingly restored, semi-detached stone conversion features characterful beams, a private patio garden with its own Jacuzzi hot tub, and open seat area to the front within a truly peaceful setting.

The Coach House Loft (ref 30160) is set on the first floor and has been sympathetically created within the Coach House, also boasting a private patio garden with its own Jacuzzi hot tub.

The owners, who live adjacent to the properties, have lovingly renovated the buildings, and preserved their features and history whilst providing contemporary amenities and comfort.
