Just minutes from the iconic foodie haven of Padstow and its many excellent restaurants that line the narrow streets surrounding the working harbour. Padstow, home to TV chef Rick Stein’s foodie empire, is a picturesque fishing village offering many attractions from the culinary to the outdoors.
The Camel Trail, a flat multi-use trail that hugs the shoreline of the Camel estuary and travels inland to the delightful market town of Wadebridge, before leading on to Bodmin and the surrounding moors, is an absolute must. You can hire bikes in any of the towns and cycle the trail - a firm favourite with locals and tourists. A great tip is to start your ride in Wadebridge and cycle to Padstow where you can enjoy fish and chips on the quay side and a pint in the local pubs before setting off back.
Newquay, Polzeath, Mawgan Porth, Watergate Bay plus other hidden coves along this coastline provide some of the best surfing spots in the UK. There are many registered surf schools with great hire shops and coaching, so why not try this exhilarating sport in one of the most iconic surf spots? Padstow harbour also has many day boats that provide fishing trips so you can catch your evening’s supper.
Peregrine Lodge is the perfect place from which to tour Cornwall with easy access to the main road network and the train at nearby Newquay.

This family-friendly farm is the perfect choice if you are looking for a rural retreat just minutes from the seaside. Set on a 120-acre, family-run working farm, these two lovely cottages (Goose Cottage ref UKC2676 and Barn Cottage ref UKC2682), offer comfortable and welcoming accommodation. Located just ¾ mile from Widemouth Bay, one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in north Cornwall, there is something here to suit guests of all ages. You could even book both of the properties together for extended family or friends.
The larger cottage, Goose Cottage is a charming barn conversion and boast lovely views of the surrounding rural landscape. With spacious open plan living space, it is ideal for enjoyable gatherings of families or friends. Barn Cottage offers a first floor living room, complete with doors which open onto a small decked balcony where guests can admire the magnificent views across rolling fields and out to the sea. Both properties enjoy shared access to the range of facilities found on-site, including a tennis court and a children’s outdoor play area with slides, swings and a climbing wall. Why not take a dip in the heated outdoor swimming pool, or challenge friends and family to the variety of games found in the small indoor games barn including table tennis, air hockey and a small pool table. A communal utility room with washing machines and a tumble dryer is available for both properties. Friendly chickens, ducks and geese roam the courtyard, and the tame peacock may pay you a visit to your door. There is a woodland walk to the rear, and a 20-minute walk on a footpath across the fields to the front will take you across sheep grazed meadows to Widemouth Bay.
Widemouth Bay is an extremely popular holiday destination and is world famous for surfing. It has far reaching, exceptional sandy beaches, and provides miles of coastal paths for enthusiastic walkers. The well loved tourist town of Bude is just 3 miles further up the coast. The town offers an indoor swimming pool, shops, restaurants, horse riding, a golf course and tenpin bowling. For the keen walker there are many opportunities both along the south west coastal path route, which runs the entire coastline of Cornwall and offers stunning cliff walks, and on nearby Bodmin Moor. Lilly’s is a delightful barn conversion, situated on a working mixed farm in the middle of the beautiful Cornish countryside, and combines a mixture of traditional charm with contemporary facilities. The open plan living space is cosy, and has a well-equipped, contemporary kitchen, benefitting from a Nespresso coffee machine (pods not included). The living area has plenty of comfortable seating, a Smart TV and a multi-fuel burner. The bathroom, complete with a rain shower over the bath, is found on the ground floor. On the first floor you will find both bedrooms, one kingsize with a Smart TV, Egyptian cotton linen and ample cupboard space, and a single bedroom. Both bedrooms have sloping ceilings. Dressing gowns, goose down duvet and pillows (others available if allergic), and large fluffy towels are also provided for your comfort. Outside there is an enclosed, decked patio with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue.
There are plenty of walking opportunities from the door, with a farm track through the surrounding fields which your four-legged friends will surely enjoy. Mennabroom is a little piece of heaven hidden on Bodmin Moor. This small country estate with the owner’s historic 14th-century Grade II listed farmhouse, and three lovely holiday cottages, are set in working farmland on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor in south east Cornwall. The Tallet, The Shippon and The Byre have been sympathetically converted from a range of traditional stone outbuildings dating back to the 17th-century, and offer contemporary comforts within rustic traditional surroundings. Peacefully positioned on a private drive behind the main farmhouse, each cottage is accessed by steps to the front doors, while The Byre can be easily accessed via the back door with one step for those with mobility concerns. All the cottages have their own sitting-out area with garden furniture. The cottages are both child and dog friendly, and guests are free to wander the 15 acres which includes beautiful river and ancient woodland walks. There is a large shared grass area for games and relaxation as well as a barbecue area.
The properties are set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and whatever time of the year you visit you will not be disappointed. The farm is surrounded by Bodmin Moor, with its unspoilt, windswept, ancient landscape. Steeped in history, the landscape is made up of craggy tors, small hamlets, ancient woodland and fast flowing streams. At Mennabroom guests may wander through 15 acres of land in the Rivew Dewey valley, comprising ancient woodland, ponds and the river itself. This natural conservation area provides delightful, peaceful walks and is home to a wealth of wildlife.
There is plenty to see and do. With the Eden Project and Lanhydrock House both being close by, and Padstow to the north and Fowey to the south, both with sandy beaches, only a short distance away. There is excellent walking from Mennabroom, with cycling in nearby Cardinham Woods and on the Camel Trail from Bodmin. There are two deep unfenced ponds close to the drive on the opposite side from the waterfall, that are fed by the stream crossing the drive, further on is the broadleaved ancient woodland through which the River Dewey flows. A feature throughout this woodland is the abundance of lichens and bryophytes, and in the spring it is full of bluebells and orchids. Located in the country near to East Taphouse, this detached, single-storey, lodge style property is nestled in the spacious grounds of the owner’s home. The wide sandy beaches of the north Cornish coast are just a short drive away, including the famous surfing beach of Widemouth Bay and the popular seaside town of Bude with its two lovely beaches, which is just 4 miles away. The pretty fishing villages of Padstow, Boscastle, Port Issac and Rock are well worth a visit, and mystical Tintagel with the legendary King Arthur’s castle is nearby. Hewas Water House is perfect for family gatherings, nestled in a relaxing and tranquil setting. Perfect for relaxing around the pool or exploring the south coast of Cornwall and all it has to offer.
The town of St Austell is just an 8-minute drive away where you will find local shops, cinema and a choice of restaurants and pubs. The cathedral city of Truro is just a 20-minute drive away, offering a wider selection of amenities. Mevagissey is an ancient fishing village that offers local galleries, craft shops and fresh seafood restaurants. There are many beautiful gardens including the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the world-famous Eden Project and Caerhays Castle and Garden, all nearby. The historic port of Charlestown, one of the settings of TV’s drama ’Poldark’, is nearby as is the Roseland Peninsula. Porthpean and Pentewan Sands are the closest beaches, however there are beaches galore along the south coast. Also available at the village of Pentewan is an off-road cycle and walking trail that leads to the town centre of St Austell. Horse riding, canoeing, boat trips and walking are all catered for locally. There really is no shortage of things to do in this impressive part of Cornwall. Beach 5½ miles. Polean Farm Cottages are located in Cornwall, down green lanes, off the Looe to Polperro road, just outside the village of Pelynt. The farm is set amongst rolling farmland and is less than 2 miles from the sea. All of the cottages are full of character and provide a cosy home-from-home. They have all been converted from original farm buildings which date back to the 18th century.
The Old Farmhouse (ref UK12895) is a historical, semi-detached farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated and is perfect for a large family get together or for two families to holiday together.
Little Owls Cottage (ref UK12896) is a detached barn named after the owls that still live in the nesting boxes around the building which can sometimes be heard at night. It is set in its own garden with glorious views across the farm and towards the village of Pelynt.
Rosebud Cottage (ref UK12897) and Shires Rest (ref UK12899) are pleasant, beamed cottages with lovely countryside views. Before being converted, both cottages were used to store hay in the winter and you can still see many of the original features.
Threpney Cottage (ref UK12898) is an imaginatively converted ’roundhouse’ and is full of character. The cottage was named after the old twelve sided three penny piece due to its shape.
Twinkles Cottage (ref UK12900) is a charming and spacious ‘upside down’, beamed cottage, with great views across the farm and surrounding countryside.
Waggoners Cottage (ref UK12901) is a delightful single-storey cottage, with its own garden and views of the front fields and the children’s play area at the rear. The cottage was named after the wagons that used to be stored in it and you can still see many of the original features of the barn.
The Mealhouse (ref UK12902) was originally used to store the feed or ‘meal’ for the pigs that resided in the pig sty which can still be seen across from it. The Mealhouse is detached and set slightly apart from the other cottages, offering uninterrupted views across the farm.
Polean Farm provides the perfect destination for a family holiday. The farm offers animal feeding each week day morning, where you may help bottle feed lambs (seasonal) and hand feed pigmy goats and chickens, as well as enjoy pony or tractor rides! The farm is also a working livery yard and children and parents often enjoy visiting the horses and ponies each day.
Guests have free use of an indoor heated swimming pool just a few minutes’ drive away. It’s perfect for families and children who want to splash around or those wanting to put in a few lengths and keep fit. Guests are also welcome to make free use of the nightly entertainment at the same local holiday complex which is just a few minutes’ drive from the farm. The entertainment is on every night and includes children’s entertainment, followed by grown up entertainment with top musicians, performers and comedians regularly appearing throughout the season. Children are allowed in the venue for the whole evening. Please note, the pool is not available during August due to overcrowding, and entertainment is not available November-March (except during school holidays).
