Just 6 miles from the property brings you into the village of Goathland, made famous by the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. From here you can board the North Yorkshire Moors steam train and take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley, arriving in the market town of Pickering. Walking enthusiasts will love the bridle paths and walkways which abound from the door. The North Yorkshire Moors is home to many quaint villages with inns and tea rooms tucked away deep in the valley awaiting discovery. The village of Ruswarp is within walking distance and makes a great day out by the river with boating opportunities, garden tea rooms, a miniature railway and a rare plants centre. Whitby hosts many festivals throughout the year with Goth weekend, folk weeks and 60’s festivals, when the town comes alive with visitors from far and wide. A 3 mile stretch of sandy beach, a colourful harbour, a marina, the famous St Mary’s Church and the 12th century abbey ruins, alleyways and ginnels lined with quaint little cottages complete the picture. A little further to the south is the more elegant seaside town of Scarborough with an eclectic mix of shopping, museums, art galleries, some fine dining restaurants and the North and South Bays boasting fine sandy beaches, fun fairs, amusement arcades and donkey rides on the beach. The minster city of York is approximately an hour’s drive and well worth a visit. Historic homes, halls and castles are plentiful in this part of North Yorkshire and are easily reached. Visit the Georgian market town of Stokesley where the partly cobbled streets are lined with inns, tea rooms and a mix of shops. Explore the heritage coast and sandy beaches of Yorkshire with seaside towns such as Saltburn, Whitby and Scarborough within easy reach, and fishing villages including Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay. Cherry Garth Cottages are located in the centre of Thornton le Dale, ’Yorkshire’s little gem’. Cherry Blossom has been named after the cherry trees which border the garden. The cottage has been built from beautiful traditional Yorkshire stone, and is tucked away in the grounds of the owner’s home Cherry Garth. It has an open plan living area with a welcoming wood burner to snuggle up in front of after a busy day out exploring the spectacular Yorkshire coast and countryside, and upon arrival you will be welcomed with a lovely welcome pack with tea, coffee and biscuits. There are lovely views from the property onto the garden and the bedroom window overlooks the paddock, where sheep graze.

The picturesque village of Thornton le Dale is located on the edge of the North York Moors, a mere one mile from Pickering. From here you can take a ride on the famous steam train to Grosmont, Goathland (aka Aidensfield in the classic TV series Heartbeat) and the seaside town of Whitby where you can climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. Those looking for a quieter pace of life may prefer to walk the many footpaths and bridleways over the North York Moors.

This cosy detached cottage making a romantic retreat, is Grade II listed and dates back to 1760. It has been tastefully renovated to a very good standard and benefits from an underfloor heated limestone tiled floor throughout the ground floor. Outside there is a large, enclosed, riverside garden, on the opposite side of a road that leads directly into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It has a shared patio with a sitting-out area, a further riverside secluded seating area, garden furniture, BBQ and summerhouse. Although shared with the owners it is available to guests and their pets to enjoy at all times. Within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, East Ayton is a village just a few minutes’ drive from the seafront at Scarborough. The village has all the amenities you could wish for with a post office, shop, garage and local pub as well as an excellent fish restaurant. The cottage is just off the main street on the lane leading further into the National Park and towards Hackness. This property is an ideal place for the walkers or cyclists amongst you, with great trails right on your doorstep. From the large riverside orchard garden there are open views across the valley to the castle that dates back to 1390. Cycling is also very popular in the area as this forms part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The Dalby Forest is close by with cycle trails for all abilities and home to the World Cup Trail, a challenging 4 mile route, or for beginners, there are plenty more leisurely routes. The cottage is an ideal base to visit all that Yorkshire has to offer from the North Yorkshire Moors to the Wolds and the beautiful east coast, and coarse fishing is available direct onto the River Derwent at the bottom of the garden with brown trout and grayling. There is also the Cleveland Way along the coastline and the steam train which winds its way over the heather laced hills of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, a delight to explore. There are also ancient forests nearby such as Falling Foss with its waterfall and Dalby Forest, with footpaths, bike trails and zip-lining through the tree tops. For equestrians your horse is welcome to join you so that you can enjoy some of the beautiful trails together.
