The village of Haworth has pretty cobbled streets lined with bunting and old-fashioned windows giving you a glimpse of the wares within. There is an array of antique shops, book stores, cafés and restaurants, plus the Brontë Parsonage Museum. The market town of Skipton is worth a visit, also known as ‘The Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’, with a medieval castle and bustling street markets. Venture to Bolton Abbey for a picture-perfect picnic beside the river.

Alphin Apartment is a beautiful first floor apartment that can be found on the edge of Saddleworth Moor, and is situated alongside a main road which makes for easy access to the surrounding area. Just 2 miles from the popular village of Uppermill, a village which is fast becoming a rival to the trendiest parts of south Manchester, but in a semi rural environment. Uppermill is popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers alike with the immediate area surrounded by beautiful countryside such as the spectacular Dovestone Reservoir which is just 10 minutes away, and backs onto the Peak District National Park and all it has to offer. For those bringing their four-legged friends, warm water dog wash facilities are also provided at the property. The Diggle end of the Standedge Tunnel is nearby and Uppermill together with a bustling high street full of restaurants, bars and swish cafés also offers canal boats tours and both canal and riverside walks. Just 5 minutes in the other direction is the small town of Mossley, and uniquely is where the historic counties of Lancashire, Cheshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire all meet.
Around an hours scenic car journey across the moors will take you to the tourist hotspots of artsy Hebden Bridge and fabulous Haworth with its cobbled high street, most famous for its Bronte heritage. Holmfirth most recognisable from Last of the Summer Wine, and the bright lights of Manchester can be reached in around 30 minutes or the city of Leeds in around an hour by car or via the local railway station less than a mile away. Two good food serving pubs are within easy walking distance, and other local attractions include the annual ‘Yanks’ weekend held each August (Dobcross was used as a filming location for the blockbuster ‘Yanks’ starring Richard Gere) and the ‘Whit Friday Brass Band Contest’, often described as ’the greatest free show on Earth’. The location makes the perfect base for walking, rambling and cycling direct from the site. Windleden Reservoir itself is inaccessible to the public, however Winscar Reservoir just down the road is perfect for easy gentle strolls. For the more challenged walker, there’s a bridleway with spectacular views across Thurlston Moor, and you can also join the Trans Pennine Trail for yet more dramatic scenery. Alternatively you can simply relax in the peaceful surroundings and experience tranquillity, surrounded by bustling hill-breed sheep and wildlife.

Although a rural location, the picture postcard town of Holmfirth is just 4 miles down the road. Best known as the backdrop to the classic TV series ’Last of the Summer Wine’, its also home to many bars, pubs, cafés, tea rooms and shops, as well its own vineyard which offers meals, tours and wine tasting events. Cannon Hall Farm, as featured on ’Friday on the Farm’ and ’Springtime Live’. can be reached in 30 minutes, as can the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Finally, a whole host of different Peak District towns and villages are within an hour’s drive, including the spa town of Buxton, the fascinating plague village of Eyam and the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton. Situated in the very centre of the Calderdale market town of Todmorden is this beautifully presented property. Accessed via a short narrow lane a stone’s throw from Todmorden train station. As soon as you step through the gate you won’t be disappointed. You enter the property via the enclosed courtyard which catches the sun well into the evening, and into a wonderful sunroom. You’ll immediately find the property is jam packed full of character with each and every room stylishly decorated with a blend of beautifully coordinated colours and furnishings. From Hebden Bridge a scenic drive over the moors takes you to Haworth where the splendid Parsonage Museum commemorates the famous Bronte family who lived there. With the Peak District National Park to the south, the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the north and direct train links to both Leeds and Manchester you can be assured that there’s something to keep you busy and entertained throughout your whole trip. This beautiful stone-built cottage offers a comfortable stay in the charming World Heritage Site of Saltaire, which is full of history, character and stunning architecture. The village is named after Sir Titus Salt who built a textile mill, known as Salts Mill and this village on the River Aire back in the 1800s. There are many reasons why you should visit Saltaire from the spectacular architecture as you wander around the village, to the independent shops and restaurants scattered around the village. There is world class art on display at Salts Mill with one of the largest collections of David Hockney’s, and all surrounded by countryside and moors.
Bronte country is also nearby, offering lots of wonderful walking routes across the moors and, for those keen on cycling, why not try a section of the Tour de France route that runs through Keighley and Haworth? For a more relaxing way to explore the area, hop on the Worth Valley Steam Train from Keighley Station, which takes you on a 5-mile journey through the Haworth moors and on to Oxenhope, once home to the Bronte sisters. The village of Haworth, 8 miles, is well worth a visit with its pretty cobbled streets lined with bunting and old-fashioned windows giving you a glimpse of the wares within. There is an array of antique shops, independent bookstores, pavement cafés and restaurants, plus the Bronte Parsonage Museum.
The market town of Skipton, also known as ‘The Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’, 15 miles, is another great day out and can be easily accessed by the train station located at the end of the road, with its tempting selection of bars and restaurants, a medieval castle and bustling street markets. You can also take a stroll along the Leeds & Liverpool canal that runs through, or simply watch the barges chug through from a bar overlooking the water. The only issue you will have is trying to fit everything in so why not book a few extra days? Pub 1 mile.

Located just off the centre of Penistone is Spring Cottage on The Green, where you are a short 8-minute walk from the town’s local amenities which include restaurants, pubs and shops.

Penistone is surrounded by beautiful and historic countryside, there are both easy and challenging walks, or if you want to make a full day of it then walk the Cal-Der-Went, which links the River Derwent to the River Calder and crosses three counties.
