Bridle paths, cycle tracks and walkways abound from the door, with the ancient Monks Pathway being a favourite with walkers visiting this area. Whitby is a fantastic destination for holidaymakers with the steam train departing throughout the summer on its way to Grosmont and Goathland – those famous villages used in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Also, Whitby boasts a colourful harbour, 3 miles of sandy beach, the 12th century Abbey ruins and St Marys Church. The town also hosts many festivals throughout the year with folk weekends, 60’s music festivals and Goth weekends, bringing guests from far and wide. The North Yorkshire Moors and the east coast are just a short drive away, and the seaside resorts of Filey and Scarborough have great beaches for the family for that traditional seaside holiday. Within the hour you can be in the city of York with its abundance of renowned attractions, including the iconic Minster, Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre. The house sleeps up to eight people comfortably with a kingsize bed, double bed, small double and two single beds. The kitchen is well equipped with an Aga, as well as an electric cooker. The owner’s aim is to make this a home from home, and you will find all the facilities and equipment you would expect to find at your own house here too. In summer the beautiful extensive gardens, equipped with a hot tub and gas BBQ can be enjoyed by all. In winter you can cosy up by the two wood burners in either of the sitting rooms, equipped with Smart TVs. There is also an electric double garage available but please request this at the time of booking the key fob can be left for you. There are mountain bikes for guests to enjoy in the end stable but please respect them as if they were your own.
There is something for everyone to enjoy during your stay at Rosary House, with Scarborough only a short 10-minute drive away where you can spend the day at the beach, or check out the impressive views of the coast from Scarborough Castle. You can dine out at one of the many local village pubs in Irton, and the award-winning fish and chip shop which are only a short walk away. If you would like to venture a little further, Whitby is only a 40-minute drive, or you can experience an old-fashioned steam train ride from Pickering to Whitby. Families can enjoy a day out at the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough or Flamingo Land, near Pickering, only 30 minutes away. You can hop on the train to the historical city of York for a day trip and The North York Moors are right on your doorstep for great walking routes. Situated in the popular seaside resort of Scarborough, close to the shops and restaurants and just under a mile from the beach, this terraced townhouse is perfect for a family holiday. The owners have catered for the children with a games room that has lots of games plus a pool table. Mill View House is in a quiet area of the town. From the house you can walk to either bay, north or south, both having long sandy beaches making them ideal for families. The North Bay is the quieter of the two and the South Bay has all that you would expect of a traditional seaside resort with donkeys, amusements and children’s rides. You can walk on the promenade the full length of both bays passing the castle perched up on the hillside. If you prefer to take a ride there’s an open top double decker bus that runs along the seafront.
Scarborough has many attractions with the open air theatre, the Scarborough Spa and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. On your walk down to the beach you pass Peasholm Park with it’s beautiful gardens and large lake, a fabulous place to take the kids, there’s boats and pedalos for them to play on. This is also where they do the famous re-enactment of a naval warfare miniature sea battle. The house is situated less than two minutes walk from the train station where you can go by train to York, a medieval city famous for its Minster. There’s so much to do in Scarborough which is why it’s popular both in the summer and winter months. An ideal spot for that family holiday.
Scarborough is just one of many family resorts down the east coast. Further down the coast and just a short drive away is Filey, Flamborough Head and of course the Victorian resort of Bridlington. There’s some fantastic walks along the cliff tops as this is part of the Cleveland Way so very popular amongst walkers. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is just a few minutes drive away where you can see puffins, gannets and seals in their natural habitat. This is one of the most visited bird sanctuary in the UK.

The village of Sleights is less than 5 miles from the centre of Whitby, as well as being on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. At the front of the house are stone steps leading up through the small leafy garden and you enter into the ground floor sitting room; the main living room is upstairs on the first floor where it offers fabulous views over the park and has glass doors opening out onto the balcony. The living room boasts a wood-burning stove, ensuring you have cosy nights after a busy day exploring. The kitchen is open plan with the dining area, and the large table is centre stage, where you can all gather over meals, planning the activities for the days ahead. There is a convenient utility room at the back of the kitchen as well as a toilet. Up on the second floor are two generously sized bedrooms, a double with its own balcony overlooking neighbouring Pannett Park, as well as a king bedroom. The family bathroom has the original free-standing bath with a shower over and there is an additional separate shower room. On the third floor are two further bedrooms - a twin as well as a double, both with dormer windows. Outside is an enclosed tiered rear garden with a picnic table at the top on the decking. From The Anchor, a 4-minute stroll down the hill leads to the South Bay beach. Within easy walking distance are restaurants, wine bars, pubs and shops, as well as the castle and North Bay beyond. The route along the cliff top is part of the Cleveland Way walk ending in Filey. Scarborough boasts two very famous theatres: The Stephen Joseph Theatre, which is home to most of Alan Ayckbourn’s premiéres, and the open-air theatre, one of the largest open-air theatres in Europe.
The Anchor is a great base to visit the East Coast, with Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby to the north, and Filey and Flamborough Head to the south. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs is a short drive away where in nesting season you can watch the puffins perched on the cliffs. York, an hour’s drive or a direct train ride from Scarborough, is a must-visit medieval city with its rich history, museums, and beautiful minster. Here in Scarborough there are two bays, North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts from the Sea Life Centre nearby. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches making them perfect for your family holiday. There is also Scarborough Castle and the funfair on the seafront. Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover.
