- Shaldon, EnglandIn the heart of Shaldon village, and just an easy stroll to the local shops, pubs and restaurants, this quaint, character, semi-detached fisherman’s cottage, with beams and bay windows, is furnished and decorated to a very good standard. The cottage also has a private courtyard garden with views of the estuary and sea, ideal for al-fresco dining. The on road parking in the village is sometimes limited and has restrictions. The village car park is 600 yards away, along the beach side, at cost. Children will love the sandy beaches and Smugglers Tunnel. Adults and children alike will enjoy the botanical gardens and small zoo, and no visit would be complete without a traditional Devon cream tea. Teignmouth can be found across the river, Newton Abbot and Torquay are 5 miles away, Dartmoor, with its superb rugged scenery, is only 12 miles, and a little further, Exeter is 14 miles. From Torquay, take a trip to the theatre, or see the penguins wandering freely at Living Coasts. Exeter and Newton Abbot racecourses, several golf courses, family theme parks, Paignton Zoo, sailing and fishing are all within easy reach. Enjoy the wild beauty of Dartmoor National Park, with its abundance of wildlife and dramatic landscapes, or take advantage of the many walking opportunities along the coastal paths. Numerous National Trust properties are close by including Agatha Christie’s Greenway. Steam trains travel from Kingswear to Paignton and Totnes to Buckfastleigh.
