This cosy detached cottage making a romantic retreat, is Grade II listed and dates back to 1760. It has been tastefully renovated to a very good standard and benefits from an underfloor heated limestone tiled floor throughout the ground floor. Outside there is a large, enclosed, riverside garden, on the opposite side of a road that leads directly into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It has a shared patio with a sitting-out area, a further riverside secluded seating area, garden furniture, BBQ and summerhouse. Although shared with the owners it is available to guests and their pets to enjoy at all times. Within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, East Ayton is a village just a few minutes’ drive from the seafront at Scarborough. The village has all the amenities you could wish for with a post office, shop, garage and local pub as well as an excellent fish restaurant. The cottage is just off the main street on the lane leading further into the National Park and towards Hackness. This property is an ideal place for the walkers or cyclists amongst you, with great trails right on your doorstep. From the large riverside orchard garden there are open views across the valley to the castle that dates back to 1390. Cycling is also very popular in the area as this forms part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The Dalby Forest is close by with cycle trails for all abilities and home to the World Cup Trail, a challenging 4 mile route, or for beginners, there are plenty more leisurely routes. The cottage is an ideal base to visit all that Yorkshire has to offer from the North Yorkshire Moors to the Wolds and the beautiful east coast, and coarse fishing is available direct onto the River Derwent at the bottom of the garden with brown trout and grayling. Situated in the popular seaside resort of Scarborough, close to the shops and restaurants and just under a mile from the beach, this terraced townhouse is perfect for a family holiday. The owners have catered for the children with a games room that has lots of games plus a pool table. Mill View House is in a quiet area of the town. From the house you can walk to either bay, north or south, both having long sandy beaches making them ideal for families. The North Bay is the quieter of the two and the South Bay has all that you would expect of a traditional seaside resort with donkeys, amusements and children’s rides. You can walk on the promenade the full length of both bays passing the castle perched up on the hillside. If you prefer to take a ride there’s an open top double decker bus that runs along the seafront.
Scarborough has many attractions with the open air theatre, the Scarborough Spa and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. On your walk down to the beach you pass Peasholm Park with it’s beautiful gardens and large lake, a fabulous place to take the kids, there’s boats and pedalos for them to play on. This is also where they do the famous re-enactment of a naval warfare miniature sea battle. The house is situated less than two minutes walk from the train station where you can go by train to York, a medieval city famous for its Minster. There’s so much to do in Scarborough which is why it’s popular both in the summer and winter months. An ideal spot for that family holiday.
Scarborough is just one of many family resorts down the east coast. Further down the coast and just a short drive away is Filey, Flamborough Head and of course the Victorian resort of Bridlington. There’s some fantastic walks along the cliff tops as this is part of the Cleveland Way so very popular amongst walkers. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is just a few minutes drive away where you can see puffins, gannets and seals in their natural habitat. This is one of the most visited bird sanctuary in the UK.

Just a short stroll and you are on the lively South Bay. You can walk from here all the way along the promenade to the quieter North Bay. The two bays have lovely, large sandy beaches making them perfect for your family holiday. You are also near to Scarborough Castle as well as restaurants and the funfair on the seafront. Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedaloes and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays.
The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The Lookout is a fantastically furnished apartment with breathtakingly brilliant sea views. A third-floor apartment, The Lookout offers guests a great holiday location with views of the sea and the beach only a stone’s throw away, as well as a variety of shops, bars and restaurants all within easy reach. Inside, there are two spacious bedrooms, a family bathroom and a large, modern, open plan living/kitchen/dining area that has had new sofas for 2023 in the living area and is the perfect place to sit back, relax and watch the waves crash in.
As a base, you have everything close by with an award-winning fish and chip shop just around the corner, plus many restaurants, shops and pubs. The property is just yards from the famous Scarborough cricket ground, where you may catch some excellent test cricket.
The Alpamare waterpark is just a few minutes’ walk away, as is Peasholm Park, where you can enjoy the lakes and gardens, or have a go on the pedalos or rowing boats. You can even watch the brass bands that play throughout the summer. Once a week in the summer, there is a re-enactment of a warship battle using model boats on the lake which has been enjoyed by many children and adults alike, over the years. The resorts of Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, Filey and Flamborough Head are all just a short drive away. Bempton Cliffs, home to the RSPB bird sanctuary, is also worth a visit. Here you will find thousands of migrating sea birds perched on the clifftops. The cliffs are famous for the puffins and people travel from worldwide to visit this site. Built in the 1820’s and retaining many of its original features, Little Blue Seaside House is located in the centre of Scarborough. The artistic owner has made many quirky features within the property that all add to the charm and character. On entering this end of terrace property, there is a welcoming cosy wood burner in the living room, great for snuggling up in front of. The small yard to the rear has a sitting-out area, a locking outhouse where items such as a surfboard could be stored, an outside tap where you can wash sandy feet, buckets and spades and a outside shower for after a fun filled day on the beach.

Everything is just a stone’s throw away. The popular casino is just round the corner, as well as an excellent shopping mall. The cricket ground, home to some great county cricket, is just a 5-minute walk away, and there are plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and cafés. There are several ways to walk down to the beach, all of which are between 10 and 20-minute walks. Scarborough has two bays with a long Marine Drive that separates the two. You can walk the full length of both bays, which are over 2½ miles. This is also a section of the Cleveland Way walk too. The train station is a short walk from the property, making this property ideal for those who don’t drive or prefer to leave the car at home. There are direct trains that run to the city of York, voted as one of the top 10 cities to visit. Driftwood is situated in a peaceful residential area, with a tree-lined green between the picturesque rows of Victorian town houses. Stepping into the house and through the hallway, you are greeted by a large and welcoming open plan living and dining area.
Two steps lead up to glass double doors which lead you out to a beautifully presented courtyard with ample seating. Fairy lights illuminate this area in the evening, creating a delightful space. Back inside on the ground floor there is also a well-equipped kitchen and utility area with a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and everything else you would expect for a comfortable stay. Heading upstairs, there is a toilet on the landing before you reach the incredible master bedroom on the first floor. This generously sized room boasts wall to wall wardrobes, a kingsize bed and a modern spacious en-suite shower room complete with a dressing table.
Further up on the second landing is another contemporary bathroom with a shower over the bath. A few steps lead to the first twin bedroom and a double bedroom. This has a separate office area, ideal for anyone who wishes to use their computer while on holiday. Stairs to the top floor lead to a further twin bedroom under the eaves with Velux windows. There is also a shower room and a games room which is sure to delight younger family members with its game console, toys and games. There are two sofa beds in here, a double and a single, which can be used on request.
Plenty of take-away outlets, restaurants, bars, pubs and shops are within a short stroll of the house, offering a fantastic range of eating options. You can walk to the town centre, the beach, Scarborough Castle or Peasholm Park within ten minutes. A 5-minute walk across North Marine Road provides breath-taking views of the North Bay and Scarborough Castle, with benches where you can rest for a while. You may catch a glimpse of the pods of dolphins that are regular visitors to the coastline.
A meandering path takes you down to the beach in less than 10 minutes. Once on the seafront over three miles of flat promenade provide the perfect opportunity to walk and explore all areas of the Victorian resort. Either head south below the hilltop castle towards the South Bay, Scarborough Spa and the Italian Gardens, or go north past rows of colourful beach huts towards the Sealife Centre and Scalby Mills. Buses operate continually along this route. Peasholm Park offers wooded walks, refreshments and a lake where boats and pedalos can be hired. The gently shelving, wide sandy beaches at Scarborough have won several awards for cleanliness and there are ample opportunities for surfing and paddle-boarding as well as boat trips for all the family.
The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are further south, whilst to the north, Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are all very popular for day trips. The RSPB bird sanctuary is just along the coast at Bempton Cliffs where thousands of puffins, guillemots, and gannets perch along the rocks. There are viewing points from which to spot all the different breeds of seabirds that arrive every year, as well as the seals that sunbathe on the rocks below. Within an hour you can be in the medieval, walled city of York with its majestic minster standing proudly in the centre of the city.
