Offering spacious accommodation over three floors, the house is located in an enviable position in the well known village of Goathland, famed for its connections with the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Just a stones throw from the village centre and tourist attractions, the village is home to gift shops, tea rooms, restaurants and of course the North Yorkshire Moors Steam train, which departs from Goathland throughout the season heading towards Whitby, Grosmont and Pickering.

It is perfectly located for walkers and cyclists alike, with bridleways and cycle tracks starting almost at your doorstep. Take the old rail trail, running along side the River Esk to Grosmont, taking in some glorious scenery, then catch the steam train back. Historic homes, halls and castles surround this area, there’s Castle Howard and Duncomb Park which are both easily reached. The bustling market town of Skipton is approximately 12 miles away and has an award-winning high street with shops, a regular street market, pubs and restaurants, overlooked by a Norman castle. The canal runs through here and offers day trips by traditional barge. The town also has a golf course and indoor swimming pool.

From here guests can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train, sit back and relax as it chugs its way through the stunning Esk Valley into ‘Heartbeat’s’ villages of Goathland and Grosmont. Pickering hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the renowned Steam Traction Rally, and fascinating war weekend in October, when the streets are packed with visitors from far and wide dressed in their 1940’s outfits. Curly Tail Cottage is ideally situated for exploring the North York Moors National Park, the North Yorkshire Coast and the Yorkshire Wolds. This is a self-contained, well appointed, one bedroom cottage, located on a working farm with uninterrupted views down the valley. The garden is enclosed with a seating area and small lawn and it overlooks the pond where you can sit and watch the wildlife. If you wish to bring your horse along then the owner can provide grazing (by direct arrangement with the owner at cost).
Harwood Dale is one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets, an unspoilt area of Yorkshire with the most stunning scenery and wildlife. It is not far from the Dalby Forest with fantastic mountain bike trails, even the World Cup Cycle Trail has been held here, so there’s plenty of tracks to suit all abilities. The coast is just a short drive with Scarborough, England’s oldest seaside resort being the closest large resort, just 6 miles away with many shops and restaurants, and a visit to the Sea Life Sanctuary and Peasholm Park are not to be missed. Whitby 15 miles north, is rich in history and famous for its connections with Captain Cook. Here you can explore Whitby Abbey and the picturesque harbour, and wander around the cobbled streets full of interesting independent shops and cafés. The cosy living room, with a wood burner and comfortable sofa with warm throws, invites you to grab a good book, curl up and relax. The corner booth with pretty cushions and cottage style table, is a wonderful place to sit and take time over breakfast and a morning coffee, while planning the day ahead.
