    The Nest is a beautiful, self-contained one-bedroom cottage situated next to the main farmhouse. It can sleep up to three adults or two adults with two children. It’s the perfect location for those wishing to explore the local area and is ideal for those interested in walking and wildlife. The living room is a former conservatory with a cosy roof and has underfloor heating to ensure comfort all year round. The living room has a double sofa bed, TV and dining table. You’ll also find a selection of games and toys to keep you entertained, and books and maps to help you whilst exploring the area. The small but perfectly formed kitchen has everything you need, with a full oven, gas hob, microwave and fridge. You’ll find some of the basics such as cooking oil, salt, pepper etc already in the cupboards. The bedroom features a super kingsize bed, reading lights, built-in wardrobes with a full-length mirror and French doors opening up onto the private garden. It’s a bright and airy room, but once you’ve drawn the curtains and dimmed the lights it’s the ideal place to cosy up with a good book. Just off the bedroom is a large shower room, with a walk-in shower, twin vanity units and toilet. The garden has a seating area, with gas BBQ and a chimnea with views out across the farm fields allowing you to listen to the birdsong.
    We’ve made sure you don’t need to pack too heavily, with games, toys for the kids, DVDs, books, picnic blanket, flask, Tupperware, children’s cups, plates and cutlery all provided. We can even lend camping chairs, beach shelters and buckets and spades if needed. Don’t worry we haven’t forgotten your four-legged friend, there’s bowls, blankets, poo bags and a little treat ready for their arrival too.
    Located in the heart of Suffolk Coast’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Nest is the perfect retreat for those wishing to explore the area. Situated discreetly off a private farm track, well away from the busy roads and directly on the Sandlings Walk, it’s ideal for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers. Why not visit Mersea Island vineyard and brewery, where a beer festival is held at Easter and you can buy real ale, wines, and even Mersea Island gin?
    The Mersea Regatta, which has been running since 1838, is held every August and should not be missed. There is a variety of rowing races, an outboard motor balloon race, a swimming race, and ‘walking The Greasy Pole’, and ends in a firework display in the evening.
    If you can tear yourself away from this peaceful beautiful island, then the historic town of Colchester is a 20-minute drive with shops, restaurants, a castle, and a museum. Castle Park offers something for all ages with a play park, bouncy castle, crazy golf, boating lake, and bandstand. Why not watch a game of cricket at the Essex Cricket Ground adjacent to the park? Colchester United football ground also hosts concerts and shows all year round, and the park has concerts in the summer. Colchester Zoo is a great day out and home to over 160 species, set in 60 acres of parkland and lakes.
