Elmer is an ideal location to explore many of the attractions of the south coast from bustling Brighton 25 miles to the east, to historic Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight to the west. In-between there are beautiful places such as Chichester with its cathedral and festival theatre, quaint Arundel, 5 miles to the north with its castle, river, antique shops, restaurants and famous wetland bird centre, Goodwood and Fontwell race courses and the beautiful South Downs are all close by. The terraced property is located on the outskirts of Bognor Regis and the local area has plenty to offer to make your stay memorable. Bognor Regis is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the south coast of England, boasting lovely beaches, fun at Hotham Park, great family activities at the Butlin’s resort and much, much more. The South Downs National Park is also nearby for scenic walks, or there are plenty of attractions within easy reach, including many National Trust properties.
A little further afield you could take a trip to Chichester, where you can visit the town’s 12th-century cathedral and admire an area that is steeped in history. Check out Arundel with its historic castle and Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, which is situated only 10 miles away and provides a good day out. The Goodwood Estate is well worth a visit and is situated just a short drive away, where you can enjoy an event at the racecourse, or simply just walk round and admire the beautiful estate. Also worth a visit is Fontwell Park Racecourse, which is only 8 miles away. You can jump on the train at Bognor Regis station and travel east towards Brighton, which is known for its cosmopolitan feel and has the Royal Pavilion, art galleries, theatres, extensive shopping, marina and other facilities. Alternatively head west to Portsmouth and its historic dockyard, and admire the Spinnaker Tower, historic ships or waterside dining. With its shallow waters revealing a vast swathe of sand at low tide, Middleton has long been established as one of the prominent beach destinations on the south coast. Middleton is a low key seaside village offering some essential shops along with a couple of pubs and takeaways and a very good fish and chip shop. There are some lovely restaurants to discover nearby. If you want to explore the area a little further this is a fabulous coastline to stretch your legs east to Climping and Littlehampton’s West Beach or west to Bognor Regis Pagham and Pagham Harbour. This part of the coastline is a haven for unusual birds and wildlife with Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve and Chichester Harbour a little further to the west, both being Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pagham Harbour is an internationally important site for nature conservation while Chichester Harbour also combines its wildlife attractions with sailing centres such as Itchenor and Bosham.

Just 6 miles north is Arundel, a historic market town dominated by its symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for almost 200 years and is well worth a trip. All around this area the South Downs National Park offers a backdrop of stunning scenery and endless walking routes to explore.

For a family day trip head over to Butlins in Bognor Regis with its brand new indoor and outdoor waterpark Splashworld and a range of entertainment and rides to keep the kids and grown-up kids happy. For some classically British pastimes, there is the famous Goodwood Estate offers a range of activities including a championship golf course and the motor circuit racecourse and aerodrome. Built in 1790 and sympathetically extended to match in with the character of the original building, Well Cottage sits on a quiet, country lane overlooking fields and open countryside. A cosy, semi-detached character cottage, the inglenook fireplace with roaring wood burner is ideal for curling up in front of after a day out exploring and with the original oak beams overhead. There are bi-folding doors leading outside from the well-equipped kitchen/dining area which is well-placed to allow you to admire the views across the garden and to the duck pond in the field beyond. Upstairs, there is an elegantly finished master en-suite bedroom and a second double and single bedroom which share a bathroom and overlook the quintessential cottage front garden which will be blooming with flowers in the spring. Outside, the enclosed lawn garden with covered pergola, dining patio and barbecue offers the perfect spot to unwind with an al fresco breakfast or dinner, whilst the sun-drenched south facing patio with awning is great for basking in the sunshine.
Situated in a beautiful countryside position, located in the heart of West Sussex and bordering the South Downs Way, picturesque countryside walks and cycling adventures await. The cottage is close to many visitor attractions. A choice of locally renowned, country pubs lie within a 5-minute drive. From the winding front path, a circular boot room reveals the entrance hall with a cosy reading corner and stairs to the first floor. To the left of the hall is an attractive beamed sitting room where deep, comfortable sofas, low level lighting, large Smart TV and an open fireplace create a relaxed, welcoming ambience. Across the hall, the long living room has a sofa and leads to the spacious kitchen at the far end of the house. With a huge island breakfast bar, triple electric Aga, an upholstered pew bench and doors to the garden, it is a fabulous space to find inspiration for a dinner party. A convenient utility room lies to the side, and set off the sitting room at the centre of the house, the orangery has a long dining table and corner sofas facing out into the garden through French doors. A lovely spot for canapés, with the evening sun casting its dappled light through the trees.
Upstairs on the first floor are four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study. The vast triple-aspect master features a striking four-poster, kingsize bed and garden views, and the second bedroom has a double bed with dressing area. Bedrooms three and four have zip and link beds that can be set up as doubles on request. On the second floor is a hidden delight tucked out of the way from the main social areas: a TV/games den complete with bean bags. The perfect hideaway for the kids to enjoy their own private holiday space.
Outside, to the front of the house is a car port with table tennis, and a lawn with bistro table. To the rear, a huge patio with dining and lounge furniture leads out to extensive, securely enclosed gardens fringed with mature trees and shrubs. A magnificent home with space for all the family plus one dog to roam, play and relax, this inviting home is perfect for extended families and small, responsible groups.
North Hurst sits on the edge of the quiet, leafy village of West Chiltington Common which lies in the lea of the South Downs. A traditional village pub is just a 5-minute walk away, and just opposite is a micro brewery. A mile up the road, West Chiltington is a hidden treasure, full of charming cottages, winding lanes and friendly shops and pubs. It offers a quiet charm and a 12th-century church, and like many Sussex villages provides a tranquil retreat only 50 miles south of London.
The area sits in the heartland of the renowned Sussex wine region, with the famous Nyetimber Vineyard just a couple of miles up the road. Also nearby are Nutbourne and Ambriel, along with Upperton, Stopham and Kinsbrook. The South Downs National Park is a mile from the village, West Chiltington Common being about half way along its entire length and not too far from Chanctonbury Ring. The Wildbrooks at nearby Pulborough offers many excellent walks along the banks of the River Arun, and uninterrupted views south towards the Downs. Three miles south in the direction of Storrington at the foot of the South Downs, Parham House is a magnificent Elizabethan home. To the west is Petworth House and deer park, landscaped by Capability Brown. Petworth itself is full of quaint houses and cottages, antique shops and tearooms. Close by is the West Sussex Golf Club with golf courses at Goodwood and Cowdray. North Hurst makes a great base to enjoy any of these as it is within a 30-minute drive of them all.

Why not bring your horses? This cottage benefits from its own stabling on site and, what’s more, the conservatory looks out over the paddocks where your horses can graze. Equestrian facilities are on offer for up to three horses (by prior arrangement at an additional cost): DIY livery including stabling, grazing paddocks, a lockable tack room and large lorry/horsebox parking on site. Centrally located for all things equestrian: hunts, several competition centres such as Coombelands,Hickstead, Goodwoord, polo clubs (Cowdray, Knepp and Hurtwood), flat racing, point to points at Parham or just hacks (including on the beach). You can explore the countryside on horseback as well as walking and/or cycling in the area.
Why not head out in the morning and return for an invigorating shower in the stunning white-tiled wet room, or take a picnic and wander into the evening skies to watch the sunset with a cold bottle of bubbles. Either way, a wonderful holiday experience in this quiet part of rural Sussex.

Arun Cottage is a beautiful property that is right in the heart of Loxwood, just minutes away from Billingshurst, and 100 yards from Wey/Arun canal. There is a slight setback from the main road where the cottage is located. The cottage dates back from 1904, and the rooms downstairs are separated by open doorways. The kitchen is a reasonable size with country-style cabinets. The kitchen window looks out over the small patio area and the field where two white horses live. The kitchen has everything you need for a home-from-home staycation. The kitchen then leads to the cosy living room where you will find an open fire. This is the perfect space to relax after a long day on the canal which is less than a 5-minute walk away. From the living room, there is an open doorway that leads into the dining area with a bar. This room looks out to the garden, and there are two sets of French doors leading to the garden. On the first flight of stairs to the first floor, you will find the family bathroom with a walk-in shower and a view of the field at the back of the house. There are two bedrooms on this floor, and any of these rooms will be the perfect place to get a good night’s sleep. Up the stairs to the second floor, you have the third bedroom with a double bed and another family bathroom with a free-standing roll-top bath. You can relax here in a gorgeous bubble bath while the rest of the family is downstairs enjoying the sumptuous living room.
There is so much to do in and around Loxwood. There are two pubs nearby, both within walking distance, both offer food and receive favourable reviews. If you fancy a day on the canal, you can book boat trips and even take a Santa cruise during the Christmas holiday time. This can be booked via the Wey and Arun Canal Trust. The Wey and Arun Canal is the idyllic spot for a bit of bird watching and taking in all that nature has to offer. If you do not fancy a boat trip, then there are many scenic walks including The Wey-South Path. This is a walking route linking the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. If you are a keen golfer, there are some great golf courses nearby. The pretty town of Chichester is not too far away, and Arun Cottage is a convenient base for any of the Goodwood events and for the Loxwood Joust festival. This is a memorable day out for the whole family. After all that fun you can walk back to Arun Cottage and take advantage of all the luxury the cottage offers. Beach 23 miles.
