Dog-friendly Herefordshire

About 300 yards from centre of Kington, quietly located in grounds of owner’s home, restored and converted to a good standard, much character, on first floor over the original 18th-century coach house, and with large attractive gardens. Excellent holiday base for walks, including Offa’s Dyke, Hergest Ridge, well placed for exploring Herefordshire, Wye Valley, Welsh borders and south Shropshire. Hay-on-Wye and Leominster are both about 15 miles. Shops and pubs 300 yards, regular bus service 50 yards (excluding Sundays).

Snuggle up in this charming little holiday cottage, complete with babbling brook, located on the edge of the village of Eardisley. One of a pair, it is comfortably furnished with exposed beams and wood burning stove. A walker’s haven, with Offas Dyke and Mortimer’s Trail, further afield are the Black Mountains and the magnificent scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Riding, golfing, fishing and canoeing are available locally. Hay-on-Wye and Brecon are well worth a visit, also within easy driving distance are Ludlow, Hereford and Leominster. This nicely converted, 19th century, detached, cider mill holiday cottage is near the owner’s farm, with views over lawned gardens and meadows, in the cider apple county just south of the fine medieval town of Ludlow. It’s a short drive from woodland walks, fishing in the Teme Valley and the border country. The dining area retains a magnificent cider mill (one of the few that survive in the area) and the living room has external granary steps. Good walks from the door, and all the attractions of Shropshire and Hereford an easy drive. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

On the edge of the large village of Colwall, you have restaurants, bars and takeaways under a mile away if you do not feel like cooking, local shops will have the essentials you need, with larger shops close by in Great Malvern. Take some time to explore and visit the nearby picturesque towns and villages, walk the Malvern Hills, visit Eastnor Castle or spend a day out at one of the many events held at the Three Counties Showground, which is just 5 miles away!

Further afield are the cities of Worcester and Hereford, both easily reachable by train, and luckily the train station is just 600m away, so its the perfect spot for leaving the car behind and exploring the local attractions by rail! National Trust properties surround the area and are always a must see, as well as visiting the cities of Gloucester and Cheltenham, the latter is great for a day at the races. When visiting Ross-on-Wye, no trip would be complete without a visit to Symonds Yat, a magical spot on the River Wye. Start at the top of the rock for panoramic views and breathtaking scenery. Stroll down through the woodland to reach the water’s edge to enjoy a yummy pub lunch. If you don’t have your own canoe or kayak, why not hire one and paddle your way down the Wye?
