Stroll along the famous Leyburn Shawl or walk to Castle Bolton, Middleham Castle, Constable Burton Hall Gardens and the nearby Aysgarth Falls. A short drive away is Hardraw, home to England’s highest unbroken waterfall. The Shawl is only a few steps from the Market Place in the centre of Leyburn and is accessible for walkers of all abilities and ages. Hop on the Wensleydale Vintage Bus to Ripon or Hawes, or ride the train on the Wensleydale Railway. Visit the nearby Forbidden Corner attraction in Coverdale where guests can follow a trail of follies, or the Georgian market town of Richmond, which offers many shops, restaurants, pubs and tea shops. This beautiful and historic town in is settled high above the River Swale and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and the chance to browse the weekly market and monthly farmers’ market with local produce and crafts. Within an easy 2-hour drive is the historic cathedral city of Durham with its cathedral, castle and city walls. Alpine Cottage is perfectly located for exploring the Yorkshire Dales with numerous marked footpaths from the doorstep and beauty spots such as Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle within walking distance. Nearby are the market towns of Hawes with the Wensleydale Creamery, Hardraw Falls and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants, and craft workshops where craftsmen display their skills and sell hand made products. From Middleham square you can sit and watch the impressive sight as the racehorses pass through on their way to the gallops. The Forbidden Corner is just down the road with its labyrinth of tunnels and underground caves to explore.
There is so much to do and see you will certainly want to come back after a day exploring, you can either have a cosy night in warming your toes by the wood burner or head out for some good food and a drink at the village pub, just a short stroll away.

Lightfoot House is a charming, mid-terraced Dales cottage tucked away in the picturesque village of Redmire. From the minute you arrive in the village you can feel the peace and tranquillity. The Grade II listed cottage offers a very good level of comfort, with a fully fitted kitchen and modern bathroom, but is also full of the character you would expect, with its original exposed beams and wood burner set within a beautiful inglenook fireplace, offering a lovely welcome to return to after a busy day exploring.
Just 5 miles west of Leyburn, and on the very edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Redmire village is like a picture postcard, with country walks and some spectacular views over Lower Wensleydale. Superb walking and cycling is available direct from the door, a perfect base from which to explore the pretty Dales villages. Try the circular walk from Redmire to Aysgarth taking in both the Redmire Falls and spectacular Aysgarth Falls. Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held in the 16th century is a stone’s throw away or enjoy a stroll through the Bolton Estate to Wensley that gave its name to the entire Dale.
Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops where craftsmen display their skills and sell hand made products. Historical castles and ruins are numerous with Bolton Castle almost on the doorstep and Middleham Castle a few miles away. The stylish living room is warm and welcoming, with a wood burner and comfortable sofas and French doors leading out to the patio area. Whether it’s casual dining and a glass of wine in the kitchen, or more formal dining in the dining room, this property caters for your every need. Upstairs the large bedrooms are beautifully furnished with super comfortable beds. The first, a kingsize has a Smart TV and views looking down across the Dales. The second a super kingsize has Smart TV and dual aspect windows with beautiful views and shares a Jack and Jill style bathroom with the third double room. All bedrooms have views over the Dale. Outside there are several areas to sit and enjoy the day. For guests bringing their furry friends the property extends to two paddocks directly across the road which is ideal for dog walking.
Situated in the picturesque village of West Witton and within walking distance of the village store, tea rooms and post office. With its highly acclaimed restaurant The Wensleydale Heiffer a short stroll away this makes a perfect choice for a special celebration. For those looking to explore the great outdoors, there are walks and cycle routes straight from the doorstep. With numerous attractions to visit, the stunning waterfalls at Aysgarth Falls or Hawes with its quirky shops and cafés and the famous Wensleydale Creamery. In the opposite direction visit the picturesque village of Middleham and its famous castle, enjoy the sights as the racehorses ride to and from the gallops each day or sit it in the village square and enjoy a coffee as you watch the world go by. A little further and you will reach the bustling market town of Leyburn with a host of interesting shops, restaurants and cafés all set around the market square and of course Friday is market day and a chance to snap up some of the gorgeous local produce.

Alternatively there are many pubs, restaurants and cafés within a short stroll and all are well known for serving good quality, local food and produce.

Perfect for horse lovers, Middleham is renowned for its long history and also serves as a thriving racehorse community. Guests will be able to watch as top class racehorses are ridden daily through the village and up to the gallops in the fields at the edge of the village. The extremely popular Middleham Open Day is held annually on Easter Monday when you can take a look around the racing stables too! Middleham Castle lies just behind Milton House and was once the home of Richard III, and was referred to in former times as the ’Windsor of the North’. Middleham is a great place for families too with plenty of attractions to visit and explore within a short driving distance.

If you’re looking to get out and stretch your legs, guests who enjoy walking, cycling or even just exploring will find an abundance of established public footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways that lead right from the village itself through the Dales and beyond, with spectacular scenery, open countryside and pretty little Yorkshire villages.
