Coquet Cottage is only a 2-minute walk from the little beach and pretty beach huts which, in turn, lead round to the working harbour in this friendly, small, seaside town. Amble prides itself on a strong community spirit and is known as the ‘friendliest port’. Coquet Cottage is mid-terraced holiday home offering comfortable accommodation for families or friends. There are two lovely fish and chip shops, a fabulous ice cream parlour and a couple of fish restaurants along by the harbour. A Sunday market is popular with locals and visitors where you can pick up a bargain then meander back through the little pod-style shops in the little harbour village. Northumberland was voted the best county to holiday by the British Tourism Awards, and once you are here it is easy to see why. Amble is ideally located to explore this diverse county with Warkworth Castle and village a gentle 2-mile walk along the estuary. The castle dominates the village here, and you will find pubs and cafés serving good food and drinks.
The Heritage coastline area, and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed with miles of beaches and historic castles, make sure you visit Holy Island home to the Lindisfarne Gospels but make sure you check the tide tables to access the causeway. For Harry Potter fans, a visit to Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland, is 10 miles and is a popular tourist destination in the historic town of Alnwick with its cobbled streets. Alnmouth railway station is only a few miles, and from here you can catch the East Coast train up to Edinburgh or down to Newcastle or York for day trips to remember. Amble is centrally located for exploring in all directions, so a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder National Park or up the Heritage coast are all easily accessible from here. The Withies is in the popular seaside resort of Newbiggin-By-The-Sea, offering spacious, well equipped accommodation for a small family or group of friends. Here you will find plenty of interest for a family holiday at the seaside. With a glorious sandy beach and sweeping bay which is ideal for picnics or exploring the rock pools. Also a cliff-top golf course, sailing club, lifeboat station and the Newbiggin Maritime Centre. There is a small high street in Newbiggin with an assortment of shops, cafés, pubs and takeaways. Café Bertorelli, a family-run Italian ice cream parlour, dating back to the 1950s, is in the centre of the promenade next to the bandstand. Nearby Woodhorn Museum has regular events and holds genealogy records, and is situated next to the QE2 Park, which has a large lake with swans. Cresswell and Druridge Bay are close by and are the start of the stunning Northumberland Heritage Coast, where you can follow the trail all the way up past Bamburgh to Holy Island. The pretty, historic town of Morpeth is only 7½ miles away, with a fine selection of shops and pubs. The town of Amble, with its great Sunday market, is only 13 miles and has a working harbour, whilst Newcastle is 18 miles. Kielder Water, situated in the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, is 53 miles away. Other places of interest to visit include Alnwick Castle and its gardens, 25 miles, Hadrian’s Wall, 45 miles, the Farne Islands and Holy Island. Set on a quiet side street of this friendly little seaside village, Sanderlings is an ideal retreat for up to five people. Only a few hundred yards walk down to the seafront and beach and close to the golf course this comfortable family style home has all you need for that well deserved break by the seaside. With a large kitchen/diner area and separate living room. Newbiggin by the sea still has a few fishing boats and the lifeboat station is one of the oldest in England. The beach sweeps around the bay with the Church Point at one end with a lovely cliff top walk looking over the sea. The promenade is almost a mile long, a nice flat stroll on an evening or in the mornings to blow away the cobwebs. Set in the centre of the promenade is a wonderful Italian ice cream parlour popular with locals and visitors set on the piazza where you may be lucky to see live music on the bandstand in the summer.
The village has all you need with an excellent bakery, takeaways, pubs, fruit shop and a good size supermarket. Travel over to Creswell and Druridge Bay for miles of unspoilt coast then head up onto the heritage coastal route and discover the castles and sites that make Northumberland Special. Day trips can be taken in all directions, a popular attraction is Hadrian’s Wall over to the west, stop off at a Roman Fort en-route. Holy Island is North and home to the Lindisfarne Gospels (check the tides) reached by a causeway, steeped in history it shouldn’t be missed whilst in the area. The pretty market town of Morpeth is only 8 miles with lots of excellent restaurants, bars and shops with an Edwardian Shopping Arcade. Head south to Tynemouth and Whitley Bay and walk along the vast promenade with plenty to see and do, children may enjoy the Sealife centre. Newbiggin by the sea is popular with surfers and paddle boarders as well as great sea fishing, and rock pooling whilst admiring the only east coast off shore sculpture set in the sea “The Couple” designed by Sean Henry.

Boat trips run from the nearby harbour to the Farne Islands, famous for their nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, dominated by its majestic castle, is only 2 miles north, where there is a wide expanse of golden, and often empty sandy beaches. The tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island, can be seen from the beach and is accessible via a causeway twice daily. A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Budle Bay is a bird sanctuary and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is home to thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers.
Harry Potter fans can head to the historic market town of Alnwick to the incredible Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as Hogwarts when filming scenes for the Harry Potter films so it’s a must-visit for any fans, with Harry Potter related events organised here throughout the year as well as guided tours. The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant. Alnwick the ducal town with the popular castle is only a few miles North where some scenes for the Harry Potter and Downton Abbey Films were shot. Nearby Northumberland Zoo is a good day out for the children and Burgham Park Golf Course is nearby. Being close to a great road network you can explore easily from here even taking a day trip to Berwick on Tweed almost on the Scottish Border where you can explore the history of the borders of England and Scotland. The attention to detail throughout this renovated cottage is evident, the owners have thought of everything to make this a beautiful place to relax and spend some time in this popular little market town. With lots of exposed brickwork, wood panelling and the master bedroom even has its own free-standing bath in the room, with a separate toilet and basin in the en-suite.

The Secret Cottage is set in the old part of the town set just off Oldgate, which dates back to the 12th century. Reached via a small side gate the cottage is hidden from the street and no road runs past it. Set in the heart of Morpeth there is an abundance of cafes, high quality bars, restaurants and bistros and some wonderful bespoke shops. Meander through the Edwardian Sanderson Arcade, restored to it’s full glory with shops to delight all age groups. The streets and parks in Morpeth always have flowers and the small town is popular with local folks particularly the arts and crafts gallery set in the 13th century Chantry at the bottom end of the town. For those that like some history then the county of Northumberland which is reputedly the friendliest county in England is steeped in history.

The heritage coastline with miles of golden beaches is peppered with castles, travel north to the enchanting tiny island of Lindisfarne, known as Holy Island or take a day in Alnwick there the Duke still resides in the 700-year-old castle, favoured for the movie scenes featured in Harry Potter, Braveheart and Downton Abbey, visitors love to visit here and then go onto the Duchess famous water gardens. If hiking is your thing the nearby Cheviots are perfect but if not, then perhaps take a day over to Cragside House in Rothbury only a half hour away the first house to be powered by hydroelectricity.

A golf course is nearby in Morpeth as is the train station where you can leave your car and hop on a train to Newcastle, Edinburgh or York to experience a lovely day trip. Nearby Newcastle is steeped in history, here you can admire the beautiful buildings on Grey Street and experience some wonderful food and drinks, then meander down to the Quayside and take a look at the Tyne Bridge, wherever you go in and around he Secret Cottage you will be sure to receive a real warm “Geordie” welcome.

It is minutes from one of the most stunning beaches on this stretch of coastline at Cheswick, and a great base to explore famous Holy Island, the Cheviot Hills and Bamburgh Castle or go kite surfing at Budle Bay. There are also golf courses nearby.
Cheviot View is a charming terraced cottage over two floors. On the ground floor the bright and airy living room is ideal all year round with a multi-fuel burner for chilly evenings and French doors opening to the sunny south facing patio and garden for those other warmer, sunny days. The spacious well-equipped kitchen/dining room is ideal for families having the typical ‘light hearted family debates’ over meals or that essential game of monopoly that we all secretly love. All the appliances in the well-appointed kitchen are those you’d expect in a property of such standards, including a washing machine for those muddy clothes or rinsing out sailing gear. The recently added downstairs toilet provides additional convenience. Upstairs you’ll find three comfortable and well presented bedrooms. One has a double bed with stunning views of the hills, one with twin beds and one single. The bathroom is also upstairs and has a suite with over bath shower. Outside, the gardens include a sunny south facing garden which is ideal for children or just enjoying the pleasant atmosphere, and another garden to the rear, looking to the Borders.
