This charming detached, single-storey cottage, with a beautiful garden, is situated only yards from the shore in the small hamlet of Kirkandrews. It is surrounded by stunning views over open countryside and only a couple of miles from the village of Borgue, with a local pub and restaurant. The nearest supermarket is 7½ miles away which offers a reliable delivery service.
Gullieside Cottage is situated only a short drive from the pretty harbour town of Kirkcudbright, locally known as the artists town, with many festivals throughout the year, including Scottish nights, classic car rallies, historic walks, a medieval fayre, a jazz festival and a spectacular Tattoo, as well as a good selection of pubs and restaurants. There is a large variety of outdoor pursuits on offer, including fishing, horse riding in Galloway Forest Park, cycling, golf and water sports. Threave Garden and Estate, owned by the National Trust, proves to be a popular visitor attraction. Situated on the 6000-acre Lincluden Estate, these three detached properties are presented to the highest standards. Golf courses, sailing, horse riding, cycling and walking are all available close by, and there are tennis courts and swimming-pools in nearby Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Dumfries. Fishing is available by arrangement at Glen Kiln Loch with the first day free of charge (any days after are chargeable at £8 per adult and £4 per child/OAP). Many quaint villages await exploration including the coastal villages of the Isle of Whithorn, Port William (known as the Machars of Galloway and presented with the Pride of Galloway award) and the popular village of Portpatrick with stunning views over the North Channel to the Irish coast. A trip to Ireland from Stranraer also makes for a good day out. Dumfries, with shops, restaurants, museums and theatre, lies 10 miles away, while Castle Douglas, Scotland’s Food Town (8 miles), is a traditional market town with shops specialising in local produce. Beattock is situated 2 miles from Moffat, a vibrant and bustling little town which attracts visitors throughout the year. With pathways from Broomlands why not take a walk into Moffat on a fine day and have a wander around the many speciality shops and cafés in the town. Of course you must sample the famous Moffat Toffee. Set in the heart of Upper Annandale amidst the beautiful southern upland hills it is a walker’s paradise with many routes starting from the town and taking in some beautiful lochs and valleys along the way. Broomlands Cottage is the ideal base to explore further afield but before you do take a short drive up to the Grey Mares Tail one of Scotland’s favourite water falls plunging 60 metres into the valley below, a spectacular sight.
As well as the hills and valleys, South West Scotland has more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with delightful little seaside towns and villages, beautiful beaches and dramatic cliff top walks.
