There are gardens to both front and rear, and it is just a few minutes’ walk into the village where there is a priory, as well as local shops and a couple of cosy pubs serving food. You can also enjoy circular walks round the village. Sandy, sheltered Coldingham Bay, popular with surfers and divers, is 20 minutes’ walk, and Coldingham Loch offers fly fishing. St Abbs is a fishing harbour with a café/restaurant, and St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve is a coastal headland with breathtaking panoramic views and awesome cliffs where thousands of seabirds nest in the spring. You can enjoy amazing coastal walks, including a 30-mile route from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Cockburnspath, or take a boat trips from Seahouses to the Farne Islands, or from Berwick-upon-Tweed on the River Tweed out into the North Sea. Edinburgh is under an hour by train from Berwick, a fascinating Elizabethan walled town. There is a working harbour and golf in Eyemouth, historic houses and castles galore, fishing nearby, and plenty of crafts and galleries. Beach 1¼ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Excellent hill walking can be found on the Lammermuirs or Cheviot Hills and on the nearby Southern Upland Way, 2 miles. Thirlstane Castle, Mellerstain House and Floors Castle are just three of the many grand houses to visit nearby.
Edinburgh is a must for a day trip. This historic and magical city evokes the imagination of all ages. Dominated by the imposing castle, there are excellent tours of the city and castle as well as wonderful shopping, pubs, restaurants, cinemas and theatres. The Royal Yacht Britannia is permanently docked in the historic medieval port of Leith, and can be boarded for an interesting insight into how the Royal Family lived whilst at sea. This beautiful Victorian country house, formerly stables and a groom’s flat, sits between its own large garden and the cobbled courtyard of Lochside House. Ideal for family gatherings and parties, it is also the perfect base for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish Borders with its fine beaches, historic buildings and stunning scenery. The large secluded garden and inner dog proof yard is complete with BBQ, firepit, garden furniture, badminton and a large hot tub for relaxing in, or for family and friends to splash wildly in. To the front there is a beautiful outlook over the SSSI Yetholm Loch wildlife reserve with a backdrop of green rounded hills. The surrounding parkland grazes horses and rare breed Soay sheep. Across the whole valley are extensive new native tree plantings along with other associated environmental works. Farm and woodland walks ideal for exploring, nature lovers and dog walks.

The Yetholm Loch wildlife reserve can be reached along beautiful woodland walks and is home to many species of birds and animals. If you are lucky, you may see an osprey swooping down to catch a fish or an otter playing in the sunshine. There is a family boat which guests are welcome to use for fishing, or for the fun of rowing surrounded by wonderful scenery. The village of Yetholm is a couple of miles away with pubs, garage, butcher, grocery store and post office. Kelso is only 7 miles away with supermarkets and a wide range of other shops. Edinburgh and Alnwick with its famous gardens are about an hour’s drive. Extensive hill walking and beautiful beaches within a thirty minute drive.

An hour south of Edinburgh, set by the side of the beautiful River Tweed on the edge of the Border village of Walkerburn, this south-facing spacious holiday cottage enjoys uninterrupted views of the river and the hills beyond. Ideal for carefree family holidays or friends, it is very comfortably furnished with a good sized, enclosed garden surrounding. Take relaxing walks along the river or more strenuous hikes up into the hills from the doorstep. Try the adrenalin rush of downhill biking at Innerleithen, mountain tracks in Glentress or the Go Ape ropes course, only four miles away. Nearby, visit historic Traquair House, Kailzie Gardens and Dawyk Botanic Garden, with lots of choice of restaurants, coffee shops and independent shopping in Innerleithen (two miles), and Peebles (eight miles). There is a children’s play park 150 metres away from the cottage. There is a coffee shop and Post Office/small shop in the village but no other facilities like electric car charging points or any facilities for e-bikes this includes at the property.

Edinburgh is a scenic, hour’s drive north and is a wonderful place to experience at any time of year, but especially for the vibrant atmosphere during the Edinburgh Festival in August and spectacular celebrations at New Year. Almost hidden in the heart of the Berwickshire countryside, this pretty detached stone holiday cottage is under half an hour’s drive from the glorious coastline around Berwick-on-Tweed, and 2½ miles from the market town of Duns. Stylishly furnished, the living room is the heart of the house, boasting an inglenook fireplace with a wood burner and oak mantle. The bright kitchen has a dining table for 4 and a door leading to the private patio. The bedrooms offer lovely crisp linen and toiletries. The cottage is just a short walk from the Whiteadder River, where fishing permits are available in Duns, and the quiet local roads around the cottage are great for walks or bike rides. Visit the nearby beautiful historic houses and gardens including Manderston and Paxton house, or the impressive castles at Bamburgh and Alnwick. The fascinating Holy Island, accessed from mainland by Lindisfarne Causeway, is well worth a visit. Edinburgh is just an hour away by train from Berwick-upon-Tweed. Located on Chirnside Main Street in a traditional stone house, this excellently presented and finished holiday home has been created with the comfort and experience of guests in mind. Internally the property is formed over two levels with generous sized accommodation. The ground floor has an attractive open plan living/dining/kitchen space, which is finished to a good standard. The kitchen area is well equipped, more than enough to prepare and enjoy a nice romantic meal or cater for four if you have guests for dinner. On the first floor, there is a kingsize bedroom and the bathroom is in a slightly quirky location off the bedroom providing an almost ‘en-suite’ bathroom.
With some of the prettiest views to the rear, over the rolling countryside of the Borders and towards Northumberland, you’ll find yourself wishing to explore some of the walking routes of the area. The village has local shops and restaurants, however the nearby towns of Duns and Berwick-Upon-Tweed are stocked with activities and attractions to suit all ages both day and night. Without a doubt, whatever the time of year we would suggest a trip and long walk along one of Northumberland’s beautiful white sandy beaches.
