As well as having the characterful fishing villages of Lybster, Helmsdale and Brora close by, the town of Wick is not far away and John O’Groats a little further with dramatic Duncansby Head well worth a visit. The drive across to Cape Wrath is sublime, and the off-the-beaten road via Altnaharra or Kinbrace is a true Highland highlight.

The accommodation is simple but brilliantly executed. Entering The Pig Shed there’s a helpful vestibule area which leads to the shower room and the main studio living space. The open-plan living space is beautifully finished and well-equipped for a self-catering holiday. It’s a place where a week or more would be very comfortable for a couple with dogs. Entering the main open-plan space there’s the kitchen/dining/living area first and the bedroom beyond over by the large rural and sea view window.
The local area is a treat for those visiting and staying at The Pig Shed. The Gill’s Bay ferry to Orkney is only half a mile away, so you can be over on the amazing islands within ninety minutes from The Pig Shed. Iconic John O’Groats is nearby and its neighbouring headland Duncansby is worth a visit – amazing seabirds and sea stacks. The Castle of Mey is a short drive away and so too is another RSPB hotspot, Dunnet Head. Dunnet Beach is only eight miles drive away and as well as being a beautiful stretch of sand is also an amazing surfing beach.
The towns of Thurso and Wick are only a short drive away and beyond the NC500 will take you to more outstanding places to see and visit. Cranberry Cottage is a single-storey, detached cottage situated in open countryside on the owner’s working croft farm. This generously proportioned two-bedroom cottage has been extensively renovated and provides bright, modern accommodation in a tranquil and private setting. Traditional stone walls surround the gardens and there a lovely views from over the surrounding hills.
Cranberry Cottage has an open plan living space with leather sofa and chairs and a Smart TV in the living area. The large, modern kitchen has plenty cupboard space and a dining table and chairs. There are two generous sized bedrooms with bedside tables in the property; one double bedroom with a kingsize bed and mirrored wardrobes, and one twin. There is also a large modern shower room. Outside is a fully fenced garden mainly laid to lawn and with a gravelled area for private parking.
Cranberry Cottage is located in Caithness with the nearest village of Thrumster just 1½ miles away and has a shop and pub. Wick is 5 miles away with supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and cafés. There is a golf course, a harbour and a distillery that is open to visitors. The cottage is the perfect base to go walking around the area and return to the peacefulness of the location and chill out in the evenings.

Moorhens is set within the grounds of the owners’ property which consist of 37½ acres with its own orchard. The stunning views over the countryside and the rural location mean that it is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy life. Whilst the gardens are shared with other properties on the owners’ grounds you are free to explore. Inside Moorhens there is everything you could need to enjoy your stay making it a home away from home. Fully equipped with a washer/dryer and a dishwasher, the kitchen provides you with everything for a hassle-free and easy holiday, while a table and chairs provide a relaxing dining area with views from the door over the countryside. An additional outdoor seating area also offers the perfect spot for al fresco dining or to relax with a glass of wine of the evening. Moorhens benefits from an air conditioning unit providing cool air in the summer but also heat in the winter providing comfort all year round. Velux windows in the sloped ceilings provide light along with a view of the starry sky at night. Located in the heart of Sussex countryside the property is a short drive away from the village of Herstmonceux with local shops, restaurants and pub. Herstmonceux also boasts its own observatory and science centre along with Herstmonceux castle. Numerous walks around the locality offer a chance to explore the Sussex countryside however nearby towns such as Battle offer the historic Battle Abbey, the home of the Battle of Hastings, along with a range of independent shops and restaurants. Larger towns such as Hailsham offer access to larger high street stores within a short drive.
