There are numerous public footpaths for walkers to enjoy and a section of the North Wales cycle route cuts through Llanllechid. In around ten minutes you may drive to Penryhn Castle owned by the National Trust with its grand rooms and attractive gardens. Or if you prefer a little retail therapy the city of Bangor is a further five minutes away. Ask for the quick route to Aber Falls and you could be at the start of a really nice and not too arduous walk in about 15 minutes to see the waterfall. Slightly further afield there are numerous attractive places to visit both seaside and hillside. If you want to feel really rural yet able to reach a vast array of tourist destinations, this is the place to be. Beach 5 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub 1¼ miles and restaurant 2¼ miles.

Set on a working farm, this converted holiday barn is ideally situated for walking in Snowdonia, exploring the Lleyn Peninsula, and a 3-mile walk way and cycle path is across the road. It is cosy with modern conveniences and access to the beach (a few minutes’ walk over railway via public crossing). Guests can bring their own horses, and charges can be arranged directly with the owner. Nearby are fishing, horse riding along the beach, golf or explore the hidden coves. Portmeirion, Italianate village, the steam railway, Pwllheli Marina, and Abersoch, for water sports, are all within 15 minutes’ drive. Criccieth, 2 miles. Pwllheli, 5-minute drive. Beach 1 mile. This pair of pretty stone cottages, thought to date back to the 1800s are set near the tip of the Lleyn Peninsula. The drive to the holiday cottages is delightful, miles of sea and fantastic countryside. Set about a mile away from the beaches and coves, one of the most popular bathing spots of the Lleyn Peninsula. ’Whistling sands’ is little more than a mile and equal distance is the popular resort of Aberdaron with its shops and eating houses. Cyll y Felin Fawr 1 boasts a welcoming coal fire and Cyll Y Felin Fawr 2 is ideal for children, the low attic bedroom being a great hideaway. All other resorts of the Lleyn Peninsula are within easy driving distance such as Abersoch and Pwllheli as is the Snowdonia Mountain Range. Shop and pub 1½ miles.

Caernarfon, with its magnificent castle, and a fine selection of shops, restaurants and pubs is just 4 miles away, and is also the start of the Welsh Highland Railway for scenic journeys into the heart of Snowdonia. This cottage for four, one of a pair, has many original features including beamed ceilings and a narrow staircase. Situated near the village of Talsarnau, it lies in the hills between Harlech and Porthmadog. With walks from the door into the hills and surrounding mountains, it is only a short drive across the estuary to the Italianate village of Portmeirion, designed by Sir Clough Williams Ellis and used for the series ‘Prisoner’. Nearby in the former slate quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, is Bounce Below, where you can bounce on trampoline nets in an underground slate cavern, and Zipworld Titan, the largest zip wire zone in the world, a real mecca for adrenaline enthusiasts. The famous Ffestiniog Railway also runs from Blaenau on a scenic journey down to the coast at Porthmadog. The Cambrian coastline includes Harlech with its castle and sandy beach and Barmouth, a harbour town with a mountainous backdrop, whilst in the other direction the Lleyn Peninsula features the seaside towns of Criccieth and Abersoch.

Caernarfon boasts a large number of restaurants, pubs and cafés in which you can treat yourself to a delicious meal out. If however cooking is something you love to do then the all of the cottages are fully equipped with everything you could need to rustle up one of the family favourites.
