Fishing is available on Bala Lake (or Llyn Tegid to give it its Welsh name) and a licence may be purchased locally. Stroll to the end of the lake and catch a narrow gauge steam train on the Bala Lake Railway, along the lake shore to the pretty village of Llanuwchllyn. The market town of Bala is close by and offers several pubs, restaurants and cafes within walking distance, as well as a nearby leisure centre and shopping facilities. Located in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, you can take the mountain road over to Lake Vyrnwy, an experience in itself, or the easy route to the beach at Barmouth, just over 25 miles away.

Also within easy reach is the university town of Bangor, with National Trust Penrhyn Castle, and a wealth of golden sandy beaches both on the island of Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula. The area is perfect for walkers, with many local walking paths close by, including the Snowdon Ranger Path, a few minutes’ drive away, that takes you to the summit of Snowdon. Beach 8 miles. Accessed by a rough track and set amidst farmland enjoying glorious mountain panoramas and views over open fields to Cardigan Bay, the cottage is cosy and full of character. Conveniently located half way between the two very popular coastal villages of Criccieth and Porthmadog, Tyddyn Iolyn is an excellent base to explore this delightful area, with a multitude of amazing walks, fantastic cycling opportunities and a fine selection of visitor attractions nearby.
Porthmadog is the departure point for wonderful steam train journeys on the world famous Ffestiniog Railway as it winds its spectacular way through superb scenery up into the Snowdonia Mountains. The pretty Italianate village of Portmeirion, location of the cult TV series ‘The Prisoner’ is also close by. Criccieth is a pretty village watched over by a medieval castle, and boasts a lovely beach and a good selection of restaurants and shops. Just a short stroll away is the centre of Penrhyndeudraeth where you can find a pub, café, shop, restaurant, takeaways and a main line station. It also has a station on the world-famous Ffestiniog narrow gauge steam railway, which winds its scenic way down to the sea at Porthmadog or journeys into the mountains to reach the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, which of course is also now well known for its zip wires, underground trampolines at Bounce Below and world class mountain biking.

Arddwyn is perfectly located for exploring the surrounding Snowdonia National Park and of course the fabulous coastline, with Black Rock Sands, 5 miles, one of the region’s superb sandy beaches where you can even drive your car on to the beach! Championship golf courses, horse riding, mountain biking and excellent walking opportunities are easily accessible. A visit to the renowned Italianate village of Portmeirion, 2 miles, is a must and Harlech’s magnificent castle is only an 8-mile drive. Beach 2½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

This lovely quirky property is wedge-shaped, built in the angle of two terraced properties so is wider at the front than the back. There is still plenty of space inside though, and the property is beautifully presented with an open-plan living space, exposed slate walls and a modern kitchen for preparing delicious meals. The village of Ffestiniog (not to be confused with its larger neighbour the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog) is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Snowdonia National Park. There is a lovely pub just two minutes’ walk away serving delicious bar meals, whilst a wide selection of eateries are available just a few minutes’ drive away. Nearby, the former slate capital of the world, Blaenau Ffestiniog, is home to Zip World where you can experience the worlds’ largest zip wire zone as you zoom high over an old slate quarry. You can also go deep underground at Bounce Below and try out the nets and slides deep in an old slate cavern the size of St Paul’s Cathedral! You will hear the little steam trains of the famous Ffestiniog Railway as they bustle down the line on the spectacular journey to the coast at Porthmadog. Here you will find the enormous sandy beach at Black Rock Sands, don’t forget to take your bucket and spade, and nearby is the lovely Italianate village of Portmeirion. Beach 8½ miles. This area of the Llyn Peninsula is arguably the most stunning. You are within walking distance of Nefyn and Porthdinllaen beach which is home to Ty Coch Inn once voted in the top ten best beach bars in the world! A short drive away is the famous "whistling sands" whether your kayaking, bodyboarding, surfing or simply taking in the wildlife, this is a must visit for all interests, you may even be lucky enough to spot a dolphin. Aberdaron known as the lands’ end of the Llyn Peninsula is within easy reach, and the lively Abersoch which hosts the world renowned Wakestock Festival in July and Jazz Festival in September a fantastic street spectacle.
