Walks into the forest or around the lake, as well as going under Kielder Viaduct, which is very close to the house. Many guests never move their cars. The house is perfect for visiting Kielder Observatory and is a 5-minute drive to the car park (bookings required) for an extra chance to spot the Northern Lights in the winter months. It is a great base for relaxing, no matter what time of year, and would suit both couples and families. Its also ideal for those seeking a peaceful and tranquil break who enjoy walking or cycling. Children will love the Winter Wonderland in December.
Nearby, Leaplish Waterside Park has a hop on/hop off ferry, which takes you all around the water to admire the stunning scenery with a visitor centre, bird of prey centre and bar with outdoor picnic area, as well as a swimming pool and spa, ideal for a few hours of relaxation. The historic town of Hexham with its pretty Abbey and cobbled streets is only 25 miles away. Head north over the border into Scotland and discover some of the Scottish towns and villages. Nearby, Bellingham has a post office and shops, as well as a golf course, and is only a few miles. Come back after your day out and relax in the tiered landscaped garden backing onto the forest trees. Local pub only a 5-minute walk.

Head up further north and discover Holy Island, where the Lindisfarne Gospels were kept, and Bamburgh with the cliff top castle. Crescent by the Sea is within easy walking distance of the beach and long promenade which stretches along the seafront in this friendly seaside village. With four bedrooms and a lovely heated conservatory overlooking the enclosed lawned garden, this is a wonderful holiday home to spend time in with your family, friends or for couples to relax and unwind in.

Visitors to this comfortable holiday home will have a private parking space where you can leave the car and hop on a bus at the nearby bus stop to reach some lovely towns and villages. Newbiggin still has a few fishing boats and the lifeboat station is one of the oldest in England. The beach sweeps around the bay with the Church Point at one end with a lovely cliff top walk looking over the sea. The promenade is almost a mile long, a nice flat stroll in the evening, or in the mornings to blow away the cobwebs. Set in the centre of the promenade is a wonderful Italian ice cream parlour popular with locals and visitors, set on the piazza where you may be lucky to see live music on the bandstand in the summer. The village has all you need with an excellent bakery, takeaways, pubs, fruit shop, fish and chips and a good size supermarket.
Nearby Cresswell and Drurudge Bay has miles of unspoilt coast, then head north onto the Heritage Coast and discover the castles and villages that make Northumberland special. Day trips can be taken in all directions; a popular attraction is Hadrian’s Wall over to the west, stop off at a Roman fort en route. Holy Island is north and home to the Lindisfarne Gospels, reached by a causeway (check the tides). Steeped in history, it shouldn’t be missed whilst in the area. The pretty market town of Morpeth is only 8 miles with lots of excellent restaurants, bars and shops with an Edwardian shopping arcade. Head south to Tynemouth and Whitley Bay and walk along the vast promenade with plenty to see and do. Children may enjoy the Sea Life Centre. Newbiggin-by-the-Ssea is popular with surfers and paddle boarders and there is great sea fishing and rock pooling whilst admiring the only east coast offshore sculpture, ‘The Couple’, designed by Sean Henry.

Conveniently close to the A697, with access to explore this beautiful and historic part of North Northumberland. The market town of Alnwick with its castle, Alnwick Gardens, and a wide array of independent shops, galleries and eateries is within just 8 miles. The picture-postcard town of Rothbury sitting at the foot of the Simonside and Lordenshaw Hills, with Cragside Hall on its outskirts, 9 miles away. Wooler is a welcoming market town 11 miles from the property, nestled at the foot of the Cheviot Hills and offering a good selection of shops, pubs, and restaurants. Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside with its many challenging or less strenuous walks or trails close by, and any stargazers will delight in the dark sky offerings on the doorstep. The Northumberland Heritage Coast is less than 15 miles east and there are no less than 10 castles to explore within 25 miles, with many Iron Age discoveries to be had very close to the property. Shawdon Hill Cottage is an excellent base to uncover the beauty of North Northumberland and has easy access to the Scottish Borders or even Edinburgh which is only 74 miles away. Beach 15 miles. A charming stone built mid terrace cottage situated in the heart of Ryton, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Emmaville is ideal for couples and families with stylish and spacious interiors, and modern appliances throughout. Park up right outside the property in your private space to the rear, or head to the front of the property where there is multiple on street parking.
Before entering the property soak up the tranquil countryside views that surround you. The sitting room is furnished with two plush sofas, a Smart TV with Freeview, and an multi-fuel wood burner with a fabulous original surround. The décor is well thought out and homely throughout. Stepping through the property, locate the large open kitchen/diner, well-equipped with essential appliances, including an electric oven and gas hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, and a dining area with seating for six. From here, to the rear of the property you will find the downstairs WC and utility area which houses a tumble dryer and washing machine. If golfing isn’t your thing head to Stargate Ponds and Bewes Hills for some fishing, a fantastic spot enjoyed by many. For those that love being out surrounded by nature, wildlife, and unspoilt natural beauty head to Ryton Willows nature reserve, which is great for riverside walks with its woodland, grassland and ponds. It proves a real beautiful spot to sit and relax with a picnic.
The Tyne is still tidal at Ryton. As a consequence of this, the water is slightly salty, and this influences the flowers growing on the bankside. Look out in summer for the purple-blue heads of sea aster. Common seals are frequently seen up the river, attracted by the wide range of fish, including salmon. Birds to see along the river include grey heron, kingfisher and goosander. Ryton Willows also sits on the site of the only Registered Battlefield in Tyne and Wear. The Battle of Newburn Ford, which took place on 28th August 1640, was an important event leading up to the start of the English Civil War.
After a fun filled day why not enjoy a pint of ale at one of the local pubs, which also serves great food. Throughout the year there are a number of events, one big event is Ryton’s Annual Music Festival which takes place in February and March each year, It has been held in the village for more than 60 years, and offers a variety of music and drama, including choral singing and mime. Kia Ora Cottage is a south-facing, stone built, semi-detached, single-storey property on a small private development just a short stroll from the high street in Seahouses. It aptly named after the warm and welcoming Maori greeting, Kia Ora meaning hello, goodbye, welcome and good health.
The welcoming living room has a sofa and reclining chair, and a lovely bay window, the perfect place to snuggle up with a book, while a 55" Smart TV provides streaming for entertainment. Kia Ora Cottage has Corporate Membership of the Ocean Club in Seahouses, which is located adjacent to the Seafield Caravan Park. All guests are allowed to enter the club and use the restaurant as often as they wish without an entry fee. If you wish to use the swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room, spa or other facilities, there is a charge of £9 per adult/£5 per child. This charge applies whilst using any of these facilities on site, but if you leave the building and return a few hours later you would have to repay the entry fee. Dogs are allowed into the restaurant only through the door to the left and within that specific area. It is a first class club with excellent facilities and service and ideal for those rainy days. Access to the Club is through the main Seafield car park; after entering turn right after 100 yards and through the barrier. On foot, you can access that area through a number of pathways along the Main Street between the shops.
