Tembridge House is a luxurious, four-bedroom converted barn set on West Yeo Farm near Witheridge in mid Devon. Surrounded by rolling green fields in splendid isolation, West Yeo Farm is set over 76 acres. This medieval farm, mentioned in the Domesday book, enjoys uninterrupted countryside views across the valley to the village of Witheridge beyond. There are many interesting walks across the land and along the river nearby, and in the autumn, it is possible to help with the annual apple harvest and cider production. This part of Devon is an excellent touring base with easy access to lots of places of interest. Nearby you can explore the Two Moors Way, visit RHS Rosemoor, The Grand Western Canal, Knightshayes House or the breathtaking scenery at Exmoor National Park, a short drive away. There are plenty of National Trust properties in the area, as well as some fabulous villages and farm shops.
West Yeo Farm is just a couple of miles from Witheridge and a short drive from the market town of South Molton, known for its pannier market, quaint tea rooms and antiques shops. The accommodation is set midway between Devon’s two coastlines, convenient for a day out to either. The award-winning North Devon coastline is within a 50-minute drive and has golden sandy surfing beaches, whilst the Jurassic South Devon coastal beauty spots are within an hour’s drive.

It is situated on a small complex of 5 star properties, one of which the owners live in and is accessed via a private agricultural lane owned by the adjacent property. The Shippon is a four bedroom barn conversion with an open plan living space which is the hub of the property. There is a piano in the lounge. The kitchen has a fantastic island with an induction hob where real foodies can cook up a storm while chatting with other guests who can sit with a drink whilst their meal is being prepared. Outside there is a private raised garden and orchard area with countryside views, the Bristol Channel and Wales to enjoy.
The property is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ( AONB ) and 4 miles from Ilfracombe’s lovely harbour and port which dates back to the 12th century, with quality ice cream, fish and chip shops, various craft shops and art galleries to enjoy. The surrounding area has many attractions waiting to be discovered including Cairn Woodland Nature Reserve, Hillsborough and Rapperee Cove, Watermouth Bay, the South West Coast Path and for the family, Watermouth Castle and Theme Park. You can have a day out on Lundy Island, go diving or take a trip on the Ilfracombe Princess and see seals, porpoises and sea birds nesting on the cliffs. Try your hand at sea fishing on Blue Fin or take an exhilarating tour of the amazing coastline on the Ilfracombe Sea Safari or on the Hampshire Rose, a former RNLI Lifeboat.
Ilfracombe is perfectly situated to enjoy countless other North Devon attractions such as the popular Tarka Trail, Exmoor National Park 20 minutes’ drive away and the breath taking Valley of the Rocks at Lynton with its incredible sea views, rugged cliffs and amazing funicular cliff railway to Lynmouth, which opened in 1890 and is the highest and steepest entirely water powered railway in the world!
There are also numerous great pubs within walking distance 4km (plus the owners are happy to pick you up on the way home!). Sawmills in Watermouth Valley and 1675 traditional pub in Berrynarbor and stunning Sandy Cove Hotel in Combe Martin Bay which has stunning coastal views. This area plays host to world class beaches including Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Croyde – all of which are famous for their surfing and vast stretches of golden sand. Beach 2¾ miles.

As you enter Crows Nest into the entrance hallway you find bedrooms 1 and 2 to either side, comprising a double bedroom with built in storage and a twin bedroom which can be converted to a super kingsize bed on request. There is also a downstairs shower room leading off from the hallway. Just down the hallway on the right is a well-equipped kitchen with everything you could need during your stay, including a dishwasher for hassle free family meals and a washing machine for muddy clothes. Here a door leads out onto the rear patio, with garden furniture, a hot tub with bluetooth speaker and LED changing lights, and a gas barbecue, ideal for dining al-fresco.
Also on the ground floor is the living room with patio doors leading through to the conservatory, which provides access to the garden and really brings the outside in. The wrap around rear garden is very pleasant with decked area, seating and hot tub, as well as a partly lawned area to the side. From here you can enjoy panoramic sea views and this south-facing area catches the sun all day.
Upstairs on the first floor are bedrooms 3 and 4, comprising 2 double bedrooms with extra storage. Bedroom 3 also has the added benefit of sea views and a Smart TV. Iddesleigh, Hatherleigh and Winkleigh are just a short drive away and offer shops and pubs. The village of Iddesleigh, which is a 5-minute drive away, is known as War Horse Country as this is where Michael Morpurgo wrote the novel ’War Horse’. Situated in a quiet location in the Teign Valley, close to Dartmoor National Park, is this spacious, detached, upside-down house. Centred on a cobbled courtyard with a pond, the properties benefit from the use of their own private sitting-out area as well as a very large, well-maintained garden with stunning views across the countryside. There are some great walks from the farm up onto Exmoor which is designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve, and there are a number of walks on the estate that take you down through woods and along valleys by rivers and past lakes. The walks are mainly off road and a wide variety of wildlife can be seen, from the wild red deer that Exmoor is famous for, to the tiny but vibrant kingfisher. On the estate there are 2 spring fed lakes; these have a population of wild brown trout. Fishing on the lakes is available in the fishing season. Access is by foot or by 4x4 vehicle as they are both located along farm tracks unsuitable for cars. Please ask for directions to the lakes.

The village of North Molton, a short drive away, has a good local shop and pub. The larger town of South Molton has a wider range of shops and local amenities.
During your stay, there is plenty to see and do. Highlights on the moor include the pretty village of Withypool, and the the famous and ancient Tarr Steps. Climb to Exmoor’s highest point at Dunkery Beacon, and then pop into the Dulverton for an afternoon cream tea. There is extensive walking to suit all abilities across the moor, and towards the coastline there are dramatic, steep cliffs at Countisbury. In the Victorian towns of Lynton and Lynmouth, there is plenty to see and do, and the two towns are connected by the famous funicular cliff railway. Other local highlights include the Valley of the Rocks, and there is also access to the South West Coast Path. For good beaches, head up to Woolacombe, Putborough and Croyde. You will be able to enjoy some of the best beaches in the country with surfing and rock pooling. For those with young children, Exmoor Zoo, Combe Martin Wildlife Park and Watermouth Castle all provide an interesting and entertaining day out. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knighthayes. Golf, fishing, cycling and safaris across the moor are all available locally. Beach 15 miles.
