Aerosaurus balloons take off from the Larmer Tree Gardens, for spectacular views over the Cranborne Chase. The location is a must for nature lovers with red kites and buzzards often spotted, and up on Painscastle common, just a 20-minute walk, there are red grouse and curlews. Nearby is Rhosgoch Bog, a conservation area perfect for birdwatchers. At the highest point, known as the ‘Roundabout’ on the Begwn Hills, there are spectacular views and you can see seven counties on a clear day. The nearby town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for having close to 40 book shops, has plenty to keep you busy and one visit just isn’t enough. There are characterful antique shops and cafés, as well as many shops for those looking to discover a rare edition or bygone childhood book. Explore the atmospheric ruins of nearby Llanthony Priory, an early 13th Century Augustinian church which is open all year and entrance is free. Apart from being home to the internationally famous Royal Welsh Show, along with a host of other events, nearby Builth Wells offers everything from sports and leisure facilities, to an 18 hole golf course, pony trekking and renowned angling spots. The red kite feeding centre at Gigrin Farm offers the opportunity to come in close contact with these rare and magnificent birds on a daily basis.

There are also several show caves around Castleton, 15 miles. For those who prefer all the facilities that a big city has to offer, Manchester is just 15 miles away. Popular attractions in and around the city include Old Trafford, the Trafford Centre, Chill Factor and the Airkix indoor skydiving. National Trust properties are within easy driving distance include Lyme Park which was used as the location for BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, 12 miles, and Chatsworth is 27 miles. The Peak District town of Holmfirth, 13 miles, used as the setting for TVs ‘Last of the summer Wine’ and ‘Where the Heart is’ is also worth a visit. Horse riding, golf and fishing can be found nearby. Shop and pub 100 yards, restaurant ¼ mile.

This delightfully situated, semi-detached, single-storey, holiday cottage has been renovated to a very good standard and is located within the national scenic area between Dumfries and Annan. The cottage is near Caerlaverock Castle and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The county towns of Dumfries and Annan are a short drive away providing a wide range of shops and places of interest. The cottage makes an ideal base for exploring this wonderful area either by car, cycle or on foot, and the Mabie Forest mountain bike tracks are close by, whilst the scenic Caerlaverock Estate has a network of paths to enjoy close by. Close to excellent salmon fishing on the River Nith and wildfowling on the National Nature Reserve. There are several excellent golf courses in the area including the championship course at Southerness. There are wonderful views over the Solway Coast towards the Lake District.
