Orrest Howe is situated up the famous Orrest Head walk in Windermere, set in a beautiful woodland garden. You can enjoy sitting out on one of the many seating areas or end your day relaxing in the hot tub whilst taking in the local scenery.

There are views onto the front garden from four of the bedrooms which also look out over the tree tops onto Windermere.

Allt Maen, its name derived from the Celtic ‘Old Man of Coniston’, a mountain visible from the properties, is on the first floor and Wetherlam occupies the ground floor. Coniston Water is just 2 miles, Windermere 8 miles, Blawith Fells are a short drive and Grizedale Forest tracks invite mountain bikers, whilst nearby stately homes and gardens offer more sedate pleasures. Shops are 3 miles away and a friendly pub (dogs welcome) is a short stroll.

Retaining much of its original character, it is situated in a cobbled courtyard with the original restored well. All around are beautiful walks, with Cross Fell only a morning’s stroll away. Fishing is available on Blencarn Lake and River Eden. Tour the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and Border Country, with Lake Ullswater only half an hour’s drive. The market town of Penrith with its castle ruins, nearby. The cottage itself is set in the sleepy village of Ousby, surrounded by countryside and home to a village pub, open Thursday-Monday. One of the first gentlemen’s residences to be built in Windermere, Oakland Hall is now a stunning and unique home offering an eclectic fusion of traditional Lakeland and boutique cottage, topped off by panoramic views over Windermere to the Langdale Pikes beyond. The house revolves around two large rooms: The Grand Hall, now an elegant dining room, two storeys high, lit by huge stone mullioned stained glass windows and dominated by an ‘arts and crafts’ fireplace with a large wood burner at its heart. And the living room, with window seats to gaze through majestic stone-mullioned windows across the garden to Stickle and Harrison Pike beyond. The kitchen is a gastronome’s delight, flint grey, glossy units wrapped in cool, matt granite, the central island the ideal spot to ’chillax’ and all take part in some culinary magic.
