Renovated to an exceptionally high standard in 2021, the cottage has some wonderful original features, in keeping with a barn conversion, including beamed ceilings throughout.

Stepping inside through the stable door you are greeted by a spacious open plan living space, with an authentic country feel throughout. The kitchen is well equipped, ideal for rustling up your favourite meals, perhaps using some of the fresh local ingredients which are grown on-site. There is comfortable seating on the sofas around the wood burner, where you can unwind and relax. Glass doors lead you out into the enclosed private garden, with a table and chairs as well as a barbecue, so that you can make the most of the sunshine. The garden leads down to the neighbouring woodland, attracting wildlife literally onto your doorstep. Back inside, you have a dining room adjoining the kitchen, as well as a ground floor wet room. Up on the first floor you have three bedrooms, the master double bedroom has an en suite shower. There is also a twin bedroom as well as a single, and a family bathroom with a shower over the bath.

This holiday cottage is in a magnificent location for a combined seaside and country holiday. Secluded and tranquil, guests are free to explore the woodland walk and the area is home to a variety of wildlife - including wild deer, owls and hares just to name a few. The property is set on a small traditional organic farm which grows vegetables and organic soft fruit. Guests are welcome to purchase the organic products grown here directly from the friendly owners. The property is environmentally friendly, heated by a unique wood-burning/solar heating system, and many of the practices throughout the farm and property use natural resources for their day-to-day running. An indoor heated swimming pool and hard tennis court shared between other properties, a small gym, as well as a children’s play area complete the facilities on offer.

The beautiful North York Moors are a delight to explore either on foot or by car, or alternatively, the steam railway runs along stunning scenery through many unspoilt villages including Goathland (Aidensfield in the television series ’Heartbeat’). The coast is easily accessible, 45 minutes away, and the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are delights not to be missed. The quaint cobbled streets of Robin Hood’s Bay, once a favourite haunt with smugglers, will keep children and adults entertained for hours with its shoreline full of strange and colourful pebbles. Castle Howard is within easy driving distance, and Flamingo Land (a popular theme park and zoo) is well worth the visit. The market town of Helmsley is just 6 miles away and has shops and inns as well as pretty walled gardens.

Many National Trust and English Heritage properties can be found within a 15-mile radius, including Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and Duncomb Park, to name but a few. The ancient city of York is but a 45-minute drive. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep. The cottage combine country living, yet is close enough to the coast to keep any visitor happy, whatever type of holiday they may be looking for. Beautifully furnished throughout, with careful attention to detail, it has a long private driveway so that you can conveniently park on your doorstep. Inside you step into the hallway which branches out into the rooms. At the front you have the beautiful living room with sofas around the wood burner. There’s nothing like getting cosy in front of real crackling flames. The kitchen is at the rear of the property, with French doors looking out into the stunning garden, which is bursting with colour in the summer. The kitchen has lots of character, with sweeping wooden work tops, table and chairs for a comfortable family dinner and a range cooker beside the feature fireplace. This is a great social space for enjoying meals together, or even having a games night. On sunny days why not dine al fresco in the garden, enjoying the beautiful flowers which are a haven for bees and butterflies. There is a summerhouse out on the lawn, with seats so that you can sit out peacefully in the garden, with only birdsong to break the silence. Also outside you have a utility room adjacent to the kitchen, which is ideal for washing towels and drying wetsuits after a day out at the beach. The ground floor is complete with a convenient toilet. Upstairs you have the family bathroom with a shower over the bath. Here in Scarborough there are two bays. North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts from the Sea Life Centre nearby. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches making them perfect for your family holiday. There is also Scarborough Castle as well as the casino and the funfair on the seafront. Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover. There is so much to see and do you are sure to be spoilt for choice.

Set in the hamlet of Starbotton in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this Grade II listed, end of terrace cottage dates back to 1663. As such, it has been sympathetically refurbished and makes a quiet retreat from busy everyday life. It enjoys a south-facing spacious garden with the added benefit of soft fruit beds from which guests are welcome to help themselves in season. To make your stay as comfortable as possible dressing gowns and hairdryers are provided, and for entertainment there are a number of board games and garden games to try out. The cottage is ideally placed for walking, cycling or touring the whole of the Yorkshire Dales. The nearby town of Grassington is 9 miles and in summer plays host to an incredible arts festival where you will find famous singers, presenters, poets and musicians. In winter there is a Dickensian festival, a magical event where the town is transported back in time with shopkeepers, villagers and visitors dressing in Victorian costume. A little further afield lies the bustling market town of Skipton with its Norman castle standing proudly at the head of it wide, sweeping, cobbled high street. Alternatively kick back in the local pub, 200 yards, which serves food and local ales. The nearby village of Kettlewell, approximately 2 miles away boasts three pubs, tea rooms, a village shop and various events during year including The Scarecrow Festival. Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.

The village amenities are all within a short walking distance of the house, with a well-stocked shop, popular cafe and three pubs all providing local ales and hearty meals using locally sourced produce. A further 10-minute walk takes you to the Yorkshire Dales Brewery which has a shop and, in the summer, a beer garden at weekends.
The Yorkshire Dales offer spectacular scenery and an abundance of walks of all ability levels to explore. From the house itself there are beautiful walks along the banks of the nearby River Ure and the Askrigg Waterfalls Walk, which takes in both Whitfield Force and Mill Gill Force. For the more adventurous, longer walks and climbs in Wensleydale and Swaledale are within easy reach. The Yorkshire Three Peaks can be accessed from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, 40-minute drive away. For more restful days, there is so much to see and do within an easy distance. Picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton are nearby, and the market towns of Leyburn and Hawes are a short drive away. The Forbidden Corner in Middleham, a quirky venue with its labyrinth of caves, folly and underground caverns, is 13 miles away, and is hugely popular with families. The historic town of Richmond, famed for its castle, Georgian theatre, riverside walks and abundance of independent shops and tea rooms, is around a 30-minute drive.
