Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.

Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.

Amble is called ’the friendliest port’ and the locals embrace this. The harbour at is home to a busy popular Sunday market. You can also see the little harbour village with pod style shopping outlets. The harbour has two great chippy’s and a few restaurants specialising in fish. Boat trips to Coquet are popular to see the RSPB sanctuary home to puffins and seabirds. From the harbour, enjoy the views towards Warkworth Castle you can walk to Warkworth from Amble, past the marina and river. Nearby Warkworth is a pretty picture postcard village dominated by the castle which sits at the top of the village.
Amble is the start of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty stretching along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed with miles of golden beaches and castles. Make sure you visit Holy Island featured in local author L J Ross novel but ensure you check the tide tables to access the causeway. No trip to Amble is complete without a visit to Alnwick 10 miles away, where you can visit the Duke’s home of Alnwick Castle, more famed for some Harry Potter Hogwarts Scenes as well as a Downton Abbey Christmas edition. Of course Northumberland doesn’t just have a coast line, it also has a magnificent Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park and is home Kielder Water, the largest made reservoir in England surrounded by glorious forests and spectacular scenery. Travel west to Hadrian’s Wall towards Corbridge, easily reachable from Amble. The location is ideal for leaving your car behind on a warm evening and strolling down to one of the little places to eat or taking a stroll along the fishing pier. Beach ¾ mile. Perfectly situated near to the banks of the River Derwent with a boat house and fishing permits available for a small fee, guests who enjoy river fishing will be spoilt for choice. Also just a few hundred yards from the Derwent Walkway as well as a variety of established public footpaths, walks and cycling routes, there is no better base for enjoying and exploring the local area. Then leading further out into County Durham, Northumberland, the Northumberland National Park and the stunning North Pennines. Only half a mile from the village of Ebchester, there are plenty of amenities and facilities right on the doorstep. A local village pub, excellent restaurants and a village shop are at the heart of this thriving community and within easy walking distance from the lodges.
