Ulric the Thane was Lord of the manor in early Saxon times and Whittingham Hall was often visited by Prince Edward I.     The cottage has been meticulously restored, the deep character and history has been rejuvenated to respect its heyday in the late 14th-century as a council meeting house at the hight of the wool trade. With vaulted ceilings, a variety of original period features, wood burner and private enclosed garden, this wonderful cottage resonates with old world rural charm and is the perfect place to escape the hectic modern world and explore the bucolic delights of Suffolk. The living room boasts a multitude of wooden beams, a rare arched door frame and a large inglenook fireplace with wood burner, perfect to snuggle beside on cooler evenings. The kitchen is well equipped to permit dining from home, and the stable doors opens into a private mature garden with a bricked terrace, and a small lawned area, perfect for alfresco dining.     Upstairs is an open plan drawing room, a perfect spot for reading, relaxing and working. In one corner of the wall there is a surviving patch of an original wall painting thought to be five-hundred years old. The main bathroom has been cleverly configured around the architecture of the room, boasting an oval bath with shower over, and there is also a second separate toilet.

Renovated in 2022 to offer an excellent standard of comfort and equipment. Inside, you will find a few beams, along with a wood burner in the living room to snuggle beside on cooler evenings, or play some of the board games. The kitchen is well equipped to dine at home, and for any foodies looking to dine out, the local area is plentiful with many good eateries. To the rear is a lovely, enclosed lawn garden and further seating secretly tucked away with a lovely view across the beautiful countryside, with the River Deben flowing nearby. Just a stroll from the cottage is a play barn and cafe that families with children under 7 can enjoy. The play area behind the village hall has a skate park, and non members can book a session on the courts at the tennis club. A short drive away is horse riding for all ages and abilities together with their café.
