The Goring-by-Sea Greensward is just a few minutes’ walk away, a large grassy recreation area perfect for a game of football or rounders. The South Downs also within a 10-minute drive, is a great holiday destination for families and dog owners alike, this lovely stretch of West Sussex coastline. Low tide reveals a long flat expanse of sand and rock pools to explore.

This lovely stretch of Sussex coastline features a long promenade Worthing Pier and WOW (Worthing Observation Wheel) - the new giant big wheel with fantastic long-range views along the Sussex Coast and to the South Downs. At 46 metres high it is the highest observation wheel to be placed in South East England. For other recreation ideas Splashpoint Leisure Centre is a short drive and has fantastic swimming facilities for adults and kids alike. Worthing theatres offer a wide variety of shows at a number of venues including the iconic Pavilion Theatre on the pier. A little further afield there is a huge variety in every direction.

The historic and picturesque town of Arundel is only a few miles to the west and with the quaint streets, Castle Cathedral and Arundel Wildfowl and Wetland Nature Reserve you will never be lost for a great day out. Heading east will bring you to the vibrant city of Brighton where the i360 The Lanes and a cornucopia of colour awaits. Driving north leads you straight into the South Downs - head to Cissbury Ring 15 minutes away for great panoramic views over Sussex. For some classically British pastimes and events the famous Goodwood Estate near Chichester offers a range of activities including a championship golf course the motor circuit racecourse and the aerodrome, all offering an exciting calendar of events throughout the year with particular mention of course to the Festival of Speed the Goodwood Revival and Glorious Goodwood. A charming flint cottage set in a wonderful South Downs hamlet with stunning countryside views and walks on the doorstep. This former farm building was once part of the Duke of Norfolk’s Estate and now is a wonderful holiday retreat with panoramic views of the South Downs.

Walnut Tree Cottage has an open plan living space with access to the patio with garden furniture, perfect spot for breakast with uninterrupted views. The kitchen is well-equipped and there are two bedrooms, one with en-suite facilities, and a separate bathroom.

Patching is a quaint village centred along ’The Street’. At the top as the lane climbs towards the South Downs is the church and beside that the Walnut Tree Cottage. Footpaths lead from here to the Downs on a number of different routes. To the east is Long Furlong, a magnificent crescent-shaped piece of downland - it’s like the South Downs in miniature. It is easily reached from the neighbouring village of Clapham where a walk along the top gives great views inland. Take the downland paths around the woodland of Angmering Park and you reach the attractive villages of Wepham and Burpham 3 miles to the west. Like Patching they lie at the foot of the Downs and are frequented by walkers. The George and Dragon is a traditional English country pub set right in the heart of Burpham and is worth visiting - it is hard to pass by when enjoying a walk to Burpham!

Just across the Arun valley there is Arundel, a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality. Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep which dates from the 11th century to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Further afield Walnut Tree Cottage is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. The nearest beach is Goring Beach. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach Cafe, built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit an the fish and chips come highly recommended. Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured. Numerous stately homes and gardens are dotted around the area. Goodwood with its world famous motor circuit and horse racing venue is a 20 minute easy drive. The pretty grass runway airport here offers the chance to take an airborne sightseeing experience offering memorable views of the coastline including Portsmouth Dockyards, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower that by road are a 40 minute drive. Lunch or tea airside in this stunning location is also possible. Dogs are welcomed everywhere at Goodwood. Two championship golf courses are on the estate and spa experiences available at the hotel. Tours and afternoon tea are available also here at the stately home. Chichester with its cathedral and Festival Theatre are a short drive, Brighton being 18 miles distant. Dog friendly beaches abound with quite a collection very nearby, a favourite being West Beach at Climping where there is the lovely Baliffscourt for a special dining treat.

A stylish barn conversion just outside Chichester, Oldbury Stables has been renovated to a very high standard to make a very comfortable and relaxing base for exploring the surrounding area.
The master bedroom and the living room have french windows opening out onto the private and enclosed outdoor space, allowing for relaxing transitions between outdoors and in, as well as providing plenty of natural light and air inside.
With three bedrooms and parking for two cars (if a third space is required then this is payable at a cost of £15 per night). And the enclosed patio means children and dogs are easy to look after too.
The owners live on-site in a separate building and are available for help and advice if required, however their home is completely separate.
