Slightly further is Chichester with Festival Theatre, boat tours, extensive shopping, Goodwood (Glorious Goodwood, Festival of Speed and Revival for motor racing) and Fontwell for a day at the races. Other race courses within easy reach include Brighton and Lingfield. Beaches within a 30 minute-drive include West Wittering, Worthing and the ever popular cosmopolitan city of Brighton, with its pier, Regency Royal Pavilion, theatres and art galleries.

    There are many stately homes and gardens to discover too, some of which are National Trust, including Petworth House, Goodwood House and Gardens, Nymans, Glyndebourne, Sheffield Park and Borde Hill. Also within easy driving distance is Cowdray for polo. For bird lovers and wildlife, visit nearby RSPB Pulborough. There are various golf clubs all within easy reach, and horse riding too. There is only one thing to do on dropping anchor at this luxury beachfront cottage on the south coast and that is to head straight for the huge garden with the sea glinting just beyond the wall. The garden is an experience in itself; fronting directly onto the beach it has been designed to embrace a laid-back beach lifestyle. The large summerhouse has bifold doors which fully open on two sides creating a fantastic al fresco dining space to make the most of the location whatever the weather. On the other side of the lawn and sitting right next to the beach is a fabulous fire pit/BBQ seating area, perfect for a chill-out with blankets good food and good company. It is essential for any luxury beach house to come with a hot tub and here you can climb the steps and slip into the warm waters with LED lighting while admiring the stunning views.     This large cottage is a boutique home stay in its own unique right with nods towards its Art Deco roots alongside some cutting-edge design. Heading back inside there are three cavernous social spaces to gather with friends and family. The living room offers an abundance of comfortable armchairs and a vast corner sofa to recline after a busy day of beach fun. It is an evocative and unique experience to be curled up in front of the wood burner with the clouds rolling in over the sea and a storm blowing outside.     With its shallow waters revealing a vast swathe of sand at low tide, Middleton has long been established as one of the prominent beach destinations on the south coast. Middleton is a low key seaside village offering some essential shops along with a couple of pubs and takeaways and a very good fish and chip shop. There are some lovely restaurants to discover nearby. If you want to explore the area a little further this is a fabulous coastline to stretch your legs east to Climping and Littlehampton’s West Beach or west to Bognor Regis Pagham and Pagham Harbour. This part of the coastline is a haven for unusual birds and wildlife with Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve and Chichester Harbour a little further to the west, both being Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pagham Harbour is an internationally important site for nature conservation while Chichester Harbour also combines its wildlife attractions with sailing centres such as Itchenor and Bosham.

    Just 6 miles north is Arundel, a historic market town dominated by its symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for almost 200 years and is well worth a trip. All around this area the South Downs National Park offers a backdrop of stunning scenery and endless walking routes to explore.

    For a family day trip head over to Butlins in Bognor Regis with its brand new indoor and outdoor waterpark Splashworld and a range of entertainment and rides to keep the kids and grown-up kids happy. For some classically British pastimes, there is the famous Goodwood Estate offers a range of activities including a championship golf course and the motor circuit racecourse and aerodrome.
