    A gentle 5-minute stroll will bring you right into the centre of Arundel a historic market town whose skyline is dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It is a great place to wander and simply enjoy great hospitality. Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep which dates from the 11th century to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort. Beyond the castle grounds Arundel Park Site of Special Scientific Interest extends north towards the Downs offering many fine walks. The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds lakes and reed beds Arundel Wildfowl Wetlands Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the serene pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley. Further afield Arundel is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away heading south directly from The River House. If you want to explore the area a little further this is a fabulous coastline to stretch your legs east to Climping and Littlehampton’s West Beach or west to Bognor Regis Pagham and Pagham Harbour. This part of the coastline is a haven for unusual birds and wildlife with Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve and Chichester Harbour a little further to the west, both being Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pagham Harbour is an internationally important site for nature conservation while Chichester Harbour also combines its wildlife attractions with sailing centres such as Itchenor and Bosham.

    Just 6 miles north is Arundel, a historic market town dominated by its symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral.     There is plenty of space for kids to play outside of the garden area. Stylishly and comfortably furnished with wooden floors and open rafters, the cottage has a light, airy, and modern feel. Bedrooms have full doors which open onto a garden area with fields beyond. We are located between West Wittering famous for its sandy Blue Flag beach and dunes and the walled City of Chichester with its historic cathedral, a famous theatre, and many other attractions. Nearby Goodwood hosts world-renowned racing and motorsport events. You can fly in a Spitfire (expensive) from its aerodrome or at least hopefully see one flying over from the cafe or at the beach. Itchenor is a short distance here you can hire a boat or get the foot ferry across to picturesque Bosham. Boat trips into the harbour and fishing trips can also be booked. There are paddle boards, surfboards, and kayaks for hire, and lessons are available, Chichester harbour is an ideal place to practice or learn. There is a pay-and-play 18-hole golf course close by. Walking on the many beautiful coastal paths offers bird-watching opportunities and there are some lovely walks in the nearby South Downs. The Down and Weald Open Air Museum can be found here, a unique day out and where The Repair Shop is filmed.
    Portsmouth is a 20-minute drive, its historic shipyard houses the Mary Rose and there are many more museums here as well outlet shopping at Gunwharf Quays. Ferry/Hovercraft to the Isle of Wight. National Trust properties at Arundel and Petworth are set in pretty market towns. Uppark is close by too along with houses/ gardens at West Dean and Cowdry. There are some lovely pubs and dining in the vicinity as well as cafes and more well-known restaurants in Chichester. The county is also home to many vineyards open for visitors.
