Dog-friendly Cottage Getaways

Set on the edge of a bustling market town, this charming cottage, attached to the owners home, has everything you need to enjoy your holiday whatever the season. The cottage was also featured in a 2018 episode of ’Escape to the Country.’ One pet is welcome at Glen Cottage, and there is land to the side of the property where you can exercise your pet, and they are also welcome in the owners’ garden for cleaning up purposes in bad weather. Located just outside the bustling market town of Dereham, Westfield is a charming, rural setting with excellent walking direct from the door. It has full benefit from all the amenities of a large town, including an indoor swimming pool and leisure centre, golf course, a ten-pin bowling alley, cinema, shops, cafés, restaurants and local markets, all on your doorstep.
This really is the perfect base for enjoying all that Norfolk has to offer. The cottage is situated in the Breckland region, known as the ‘Secret Heart of Norfolk’, boasting over 100 villages scattered across 500 square miles, making walking, cycling and horse riding popular activities. The North Norfolk Coast is under an hours’ drive, offering excellent sandy beaches, RSPB nature reserves, and popular seaside resort of Wells-next-the-Sea, 25 miles, Blakeney Quay, 26 miles, historic Holt, 22 miles and The Royal Sandringham Estate, 31 miles. Dereham railway station is home to the Mid-Norfolk Railway, where you can enjoy an 11-mile trip through the countryside into the historic market town of Wymondham with its plentiful shops, cafés and pubs. The city of Norwich, 26 miles, boasts a theatre, famous Norman castle, numerous museums, art galleries, cafés, market square, restaurants and shopping malls. Downs View is a spacious family friendly holiday home just three minutes’ walk from Yaverland’s beach.

The house is recently built, and is conveniently laid out and furnished in a modern style, decorated with family living in mind. The kitchen is open plan with the dining area, so if it’s your turn to cook you won’t miss out on all the fun! From the dining area, patio doors lead outside, where there’s a table and chairs for those warmer evenings.

You’ll find one of the three bedrooms on the ground floor (bagsy this one for the zip and link twin beds which can be super kingsize bed on request!) and two further bedrooms upstairs. There’ll be no fighting over the bathroom either, with a family bathroom upstairs, and a shower room on the ground floor.

Outside, the enclosed back garden provides plenty of space for the kids to let off steam after a day at the beach whilst you unwind with a glass of wine. At the front of the house, the driveway has space for three cars.

The zoo, Dinosaur Isle, the pier, esplanade and a plethora of beachside cafés overlooking the golden sandy beaches are all within walking distance, making this the perfect spot for an adventure packed family getaway.

Tucked in next to the friendly, local pub lies Turnstone Cottage, a large, terraced coastal house with panoramic sea views in the heart of Sheringham, where guests can easily reach the sandy beach and the sea. The property is triple-glazed throughout and boasts stunning sea views from the terrace, front bedrooms and attic suite, in which this spacious room benefits from its own sitting area and where views over the promenade can be enjoyed. Visit Sheringham with its seaside attractions and array of shops, cafés and restaurants. Always worth a visit are attractions such as the Splash water park, Sheringham Nationa Trust park, Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall and the North Norfolk Steam Railway. Walking, cycling, fishing, golf and boat hire are available locally. Explore Cromer, the Georgian market town of Holt, the many saltmarshes and Blakeney Quay. Immerse yourself in Norwich’s history with its cathedral and castle museum, but don’t miss present day offerings with the theatre, shopping outlets, art galleries and an array of eateries. This delightful, period home stands semi-detached, and offers light and airy, carefully co-ordinated holiday accommodation, with good use of tasteful themed coloured walls and contemporary additions. It is ideally located right in the heart of The New Forest, only 200 yards from the centre of Burley, which attracts many visitors’ year round with its tea rooms, pubs, manor house, cycle hire, quaint gift shops and ice cream parlour. There is also a spa in the village where you can spend a day relaxing. Roaming ponies and cattle can often be found outside the cottage or wandering through Burley – it certainly makes a change from a traditional traffic jam!

The unspoilt forest and heathland with wandering ponies and cattle are what makes the New Forest famous. Miles of beautiful walks are available, as is golf, or alternatively the surrounding area can be explored by car or on bicycle via the many cycle paths, where you can discover some of the appealing villages, towns, attractions, and gardens such as Lyndhurst, the sailing town of Lymington (with ferry terminal to the Isle of Wight), Beaulieu Motor Museum, Exbury Gardens and the riverside village of Bucklers Hard. The county of Hampshire itself was enjoyed by Jane Austen with her house and museum in Chawton and her resting place in Winchester Cathedral. Further afield but well worth a trip is Christchurch, Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool. Marwell Zoo, Peppa Pig World, ‘Go Ape’ adventure park, The Owl and Otter Park and nautical maritime history at Southampton, with retail shopping outlets, are also within easy reach. The coastline with its beaches at Bournemouth, Sandbanks and Poole is within a short drive, with golden beaches and has many popular activities such as windsurfing, boating and swimming.
