Whatley Lodge is set in an idyllic location at the bottom of a long gravel private driveway, adjacent to a small river where an abundance of wildlife, including deer and kingfishers, can be seen. This secluded location can be found in a small valley off the B3162 a mile outside Winsham village located near Chard in south Somerset, close to the West Dorset and Devon borders.

This detached lodge offers great family accommodation for four. Located within an easy driving distance of many great attractions including Forde Abbey and Gardens which make for an interesting visit, or for great family attractions, the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum and the Haynes Motor Museum are certainly to be enjoyed by all. Nearby, enjoy a cream tea at Hornsbury Mill or Barleymows Farm Shop, some Somerset Cider at Dowlish Wake, or simply take in some great country or coastal walking, golf at the nearby Cricket St Thomas Golf Club or visit the nature reserve at Chard Reservoir. Venturing further north is Clarks Village, the factory shopping outlet at Street, Glastonbury Tor, and further on to Cheddar Gorge and Caves.

The famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast is within a 30-minute drive with many picturesque towns and villages, taking in the seaside resorts of Lyme Regis, West Bay, Seaton, and Sidmouth. Beach 15 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub 1 mile in the centre of the village and restaurant 3 miles.

The Cow Shed has been lovingly converted by the owners, who have years of experience in the hospitality industry, and this really shows inside and out. Enter through the stunning glass door, and you will find a ground floor twin bedroom, and a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room just off the hallway. From here, two steps lead down into the wonderful, large, open-plan living space, where gorgeous furnishings and fittings such as olive bucket lightshades set the scene for the stunning views of the Blackdown Hills beyond. Upstairs are two large bedrooms (one has a zip and link twin or super kingsize bed, and the other has a fabulous kingsize designer sleigh bed). An impressive bathroom with a roll-top bath and separate shower cubicle can also be found here. Outside, the huge patio area has multiple seating areas and a stunning 6-8 person hot tub, where you can crack open the bubbly and watch the sun set beyond. There is also access to a lovely lawned area for games.
Set in the lovely village of Bishopswood, with the Somerset Wildlife Trust running adjacent to the property, you are only 5 minutes’ walk from the local pub and surrounded by miles of beautiful walks. The market town of Honiton is just 10 miles away and the beach at Lyme Regis can be reached within a 30-minute drive. Heading north, you will find the county town of Taunton with lots of restaurants, cinema, bowling and shopping, and within an hour’s drive you will find Glastonbury, Street, Minehead and the moors of Exmoor! Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 250 yards.

Old Orchard Barn - The Annexe is a beautiful converted property in the heart of Buckland St Mary, a gorgeous Somerset village, yet within easy access to the A303. Inside it has been lovingly converted as a relaxing holiday retreat for two to feature a cosy living area with electric wood burner and Smart TV, although with the large windows gazing out over the rolling fields you may never need to switch it on! The living room is open plan with the kitchen although this is up a step, giving it a slightly separate feel. The kitchen is well-equipped with an oven, hob, microwave and fridge/freezer, and there is a wonderful dining area making the most of the views. Into the bedroom you have an oak kingsize bed with bamboo mattress, Egyptian cotton bedding and an oak dressing table, as well as a hanging area for your clothes, off the bedroom there is a fabulously colourful en-suite with shower cubicle. Outside there is a private garden area with seating and views, perfect for a glass of wine as the sun goes down, there is also a private outdoor swimming pool available from 10am until 4pm (May-Sep only) and shared use of the tennis court - bring your own tennis rackets and tennis shoes (white soles only).
The property is located within the Blackdown Hills - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the Somerset, Devon and Dorset border. There are some beautiful walks in the area, and a Covid-19 secure country public house less than ½ mile away, as well as an Italian restaurant ½ mile in the other direction.
It is set between the market town of Chard, with its shops and museums, and the larger county town of Taunton with its bustling shopping centre, restaurants, bars and entertainment facilities. There are many tourist attractions to visit, from woodland walks to National Trust estates such as Barrington Court and Montacute House. The Quantocks and Exmoor National Park are within easy driving, and for a trip back in time, travel from Taunton along the West Somerset Steam Railway to Minehead.
Further afield you have the Jurassic Coast beaches of Lyme Regis and West Bay, as well as some of Somerset’s great places to visit. Guests can drive to Glastonbury Tor for an exhilarating walk to the top with some magnificent views of Somerset, perhaps calling in at The Clarkes Factory Village and Wells Cathedral and Palace, or head into the other direction into Devon and visit the city of Exeter and have lunch on the quays! With many beautiful country walks in the area, this period property is ideal for walkers and with a livery yard next door, horse stabling is available (by arrangement). Visit Taunton, the county town of Somerset, historical houses and gardens including Montacute House, Forde Abbey, Hestercombe Gardens and Barrington Court, or take a trip to Minehead on the nostalgic West Somerset Steam Railway. Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills are well worth a visit, as well as a trip to the south to explore the Jurassic Coast between Seaton and Bridport, taking in Lyme Regis. Inland, there is Clarkes Village for some retail therapy, Glastonbury Tor, Somerset Levels, Cheddar Gorge and the spa city of Bath. After spending the day exploring many attractions, return to this delightful property and snuggle up in front of the woodburner, set in a lovely inglenook with bread oven. Beach 20 miles. Welcome to Little Folly, a delightful cottage in the heart of Exmoor’s national park. Refurbished in late 2021, Little Folly provides the perfect escape for two couples or a family looking to get away from it all and head back to nature for a while. On the ground floor you have an open plan lounge/diner/kitchen area with a stunning bay window enjoying amazing views over the garden to the hills beyond. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to prepare a meal that you can enjoy at the table, while the lounge area has comfortable seating to relax after a day on the moors. The ground floor bedroom has a double bed and views over the garden. Head up four steps to the fabulous bathroom which has a P-shaped bath with shower over and heated towel rail. On this level you will also find the main bedroom featuring a super kingsize zip and link bed (which can be made into two singles on request).

Outside you have plenty of parking, and your garden is the perfect place to relax and let your family unwind, and from the doorstep there are miles of walks over the moor. Just a mile down the hill is the village of Winsford with its local pub, or hop in the car and explore the myriad of quaint rural villages dotted around, with tea rooms and country inns that have some of the best views! The beaches of Minehead, Dunster and Blue Anchor are within easy reach and always make for a fun day out. Jump on the West Somerset Steam Railway and chug merrily through the beautiful Somerset countryside. Dulverton is just a 10 minute drive with its shops and supermarket.

The owners have received an Exmoor National Park Dark Sky Friendly business award. This is very exciting as Astro tourism is a growing component of the tourist industry. Our towns and cities create so much light pollution that most people in the UK cannot appreciate the moon, let alone the stars and planets. Exmoor, along with other remote areas of the UK run events to promote the night sky. The garden is ideal for viewing the night sky and there are two sets of Astro binoculars for guests to enjoy the starry sky. Blankets, baked potatoes and a hot drink can also be provided on request.

You will also find plenty of National Trust properties nearby such as Lytes Cary Manor and Montacute House, both within a 20-minute drive.
