Set in most picturesque and private cottage gardens, this detached cottage is just two miles from Arundel and has an abundance of footpaths to the South Downs on the doorstep. From the gardens and upstairs windows there is the most glorious outlook and the garden beckons guests to relax and enjoy those lazy summer days. The cottage is bright and traditionally furnished and is a comfortable size for up to six guests. It has three upstairs bedrooms the master bedroom has a kingsize bed with an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a standard double bed and the third bedroom with a dual outlook, gives a fresh and bright feel and is fitted with twin beds, the family bathroom completes the property. The gardens here just encourage and welcome you outside and offer complete privacy. They are neatly maintained offering many areas to meander around and explore. There is a raised path which guests need to take care when using that really open up the views over the Sussex Downs.

There are many attractive period properties in the village and it’s a delight to wander through, including the Norman Church of St Mary’s where you can walk through the church grounds and the views quickly open out onto the Arun Valley and the South Downs. This area is ideal for walking and from the lower slopes of the Downs there are wonderful views to the coast and to the east and west. Arundel two miles away is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle that can be seen to the south of Burpham. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. It’s a great place to visit and just enjoy the hospitality during any day of the week.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years and is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep which dates from the 11th Century to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort. Beyond the castle grounds is Arundel Park which is clearly visible across the valley from the cottage. The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds lakes and reed beds at Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the pub for a bite to eat or just some liquid refreshments.

Further afield Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach. Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well. If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this great place to stay.

Located roughly 5 miles north of Worthing and set within the green and pleasant hills of the South Downs National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, “Manor Cottage” lies in the quaint west Sussex village of Findon.
The village has a popular range of shops, public houses and restaurants to visit and is also convenient for easy access to endless walking and riding via footpaths, bridlepaths and the South Downs Way. Findon is by-passed by the A24 and provides good access to London. You can spot the horses in action on the gallops. Walk part of the 100-mile South Downs Way with historic woodlands where you can smell the intoxicating scent of the bluebells in the spring. The WWT Wetland Centre, Swanbourne Lake and South Downs National Park with its pretty villages and fabulous hiking opportunities are all within 5 minutes. Numerous stately homes and gardens are dotted around the area. Goodwood with its world famous motor circuit and horse racing venue is a 20 minute easy drive. The pretty grass runway airport here offers the chance to take an airborne sightseeing experience offering memorable views of the coastline including Portsmouth Dockyards, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower that by road are a 40 minute drive. Lunch or tea airside in this stunning location is also possible. Dogs are welcomed everywhere at Goodwood. Two championship golf courses are on the estate and spa experiences available at the hotel. Tours and afternoon tea are available also here at the stately home. Chichester with its cathedral and Festival Theatre are a short drive, Brighton being 18 miles distant. Downstairs hosts the social spaces; there is a large living room with comfortable seating, a writing desk, Smart TV and patio doors to the garden. It is an easy five-minute stroll from Little Stags into the centre of Petworth, best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House and its deer park landscaped by Capability Brown. The entrance to the park is just round the corner, giving easy access for a brisk walk with the dog in the early morning mist. Sitting in the heart of the South Downs, the house contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner. The town is full of quaint houses and cottages, interspersed with antique shops, tearooms and restaurants; the ideal place for a wander following your enjoyment of Petworth House and Park.

To the west, the market town of Midhurst nestles next to Cowdray Park. The Cowdray Estate is most famous for its polo club, particularly in June and July when the polo set meet for the Gold Cup. The Cowdray ruins are also of note, forming an impressive Tudor backdrop to Midhurst. Ten miles south, the famous Goodwood Estate offers a range of activities including a championship golf course, the motor circuit, racecourse and aerodrome. All offer an exciting calendar of events, with particular mention of course to the Festival of Speed, the Goodwood Revival and Glorious Goodwood.

A little further past Goodwood, the cathedral city of Chichester is one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK. Its broad streets are packed with listed buildings, headed by the towering presence of the cathedral and all neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls. There is an excellent range of independent and high street shops, pubs and restaurants, and the Chichester Festival Theatre offers a variety of first-class productions. Also nearby, Arundel is another historic market town dominated by its symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops, as well as restaurants and tearooms. The Sussex coast and its beaches are within a 30-minute drive.

Set off the beautiful Lombard Street, an historic cobbled street in the heart of Petworth’s old town centre, Westwood dates back to the 17th Century and epitomises the abundance of character found in this genteel corner of Sussex.

A gate from the street leads along an ancient passageway to the rear courtyard, and entrance into Westwood’s newly fitted kitchen. The kitchen contains a wide range of appliances including a coffee machine. Heading upstairs, the intimate dining area offers a church pew bench and beckons you in with deep purple tones. Next to the dining area is the kingsize bedroom, and to the other side the family bathroom. With a vaulted ceiling, the cosy living room is resplendent in rich red décor, exposed beams and brickwork, and offers a Chesterfield sofa, loveseat and Smart TV.

From the sitting room an unassuming, tiny door reveals a fabulous snug room. With two armchairs and a bar-style desk looking down over the cobbled street below, it is the perfect spot to inspire a Dickensian novel. The snug also leads into bedroom two, a large twin looking out over the ancient rooves of Petworth. Outside there is a small, sunny courtyard accessed from the kitchen, fully enclosed for the kids and pooch and offering a bistro table, bench seat and charcoal BBQ.
